My guidance counselor called me down today and and told me about the Danforth Scholars program and that she would like to nominate me. The form she showed me said nominations are due by October 15th, but on their website it says November 15. She wants me to get my undergraduate application done tonight because she thinks I need to have it submitted so she can nominate me by the October date. I was not planning on applying ED and submitting my app so early. All the other scholarship deadlines appear to be January 15, 2014. Do i have to finish my common app before she can nominate me for this? Any help would be appreciated!

Son was nominated before he submitted the application. I remember that when the nomination was received we got a notice from WashU that a file had been created and he had to confirm his interest, but final application came a little later. Best way is to call the school, in my opinion. Son did not get the Danforth so maybe there is someone who was successful out there who can weigh in.

If I apply for Danfoth scholarship, can she also apply for other scholarships as shown in WUSTL’s scholarship site (Moog or elase)?
If she is chosen by mutiple scholarship comminttes, how and when can she decide the one ?

Alright. Here’s how it works. The nomination form for the Danforth Scholars Program, which must be filled out by your counsellor is due on the 15th of October. In addition, you must complete and submit your common app by the 15th of November (for ED only) and the 15th of January(For RD). You must also fill out the Danforth Scholars application ( 3 short essays and 1 long essay) by the 15th of January. It’s a long process, but trust me, it’s worth it. It’s a terrific program and the money is great.

@Dad 2013, you can apply to all the scholarships. The Danforth scholarship is the only one that requires a nomination by a high school counsellor.

It is consistent with what I heard from WashU admission office today. Although I know we can get a confirmation from the school, it’s still beneficial to share in the forum for general audience. Thanks for your sharing.
