If everyone has a date change by today, then there are two waves of date changes: one on 12/3 and one on 12/7. One of the wave is for admitted students, and the other is for deferral.
If a lot of people still has unchanged dates, it’s most likely that all those who had date changes are admits.
@financekid123 Check your Applicant Portal. On the Financial Aid bar, check the dates of your FinAid documents. If your IDOC and W2s have date received as late as late November and December, it most likely changed.
My dates never changed. (All my financial aid dates are still around 11/7 except one). The one that is in December is because my other EA schools requested some other forms on IDOC that is not required by Dartmouth. So when I updated my IDOC and stuff the Dartmouth side got updated as well although it’s not related to Dartmouth at all. So I don’t think the date change is associated with anything. The date changes every time u update something related to your fin aid documents. Like FAFSA verification, additional documents upload, etc. Even if it’s not meant for Dartmouth, dates change regardless. @screamingkettle@YouTellMe
I submitted everything October 31st, application and financial aid. My application portal has the dates of either 11/1 or 11/2 for my Admissions materials, that’s when they most likely received them. For my financial aid, I have the date of 11/7 for my CSS, 11/2 for FAFSA, and 11/29 for the rest of the materials @YouTellMe
I truly believe the Dartmouth Financial Aid Office and the Admissions Office are distinct departments that don’t have a say in the results of the other department, based off what has been said deep in this thread. Don’t look too far into your dates, guys! You might be worrying yourself excessively over something of no significance or you might hype yourself up too much. Wednesday is just days away, take a moment and breathe, and know this will not make or break your world. Good luck to all applicants!
All I know is that dates changing to 12/03 is a good sign. Both @screamingkettle and @potentialdropout changed to that and both of them are likely to be accepted since they received that financial aid email.
A lot of great ideas and theories on this thread! But to my fellow anxious applicants: keep in mind that the meanings of these date changes are mostly speculatory, and nobody really knows for sure what the date changes mean unless someone directly calls the financial aid office and asks. It’s completely possible that the date changes indicate an acceptance, but I’m a bit skeptical about the idea that Dartmouth would let this clue about admission decisions slide past so easily. They have been doing this process for a long while, after all. Either way, good luck to all of you and I hope we get to meet next fall!
I would like to comment my situation if it helps decipher this whole financial aid date fiasco.
I applied to UGA and Georgia Tech pretty early on, which were both in October, and I got the FAFSA and IDOC and the addition financial aid verification emails back in 11/06, and I corrected it on that day. When I checked my Dartmouth portal a couple weeks on (which I applied 10/31), my financial aid dates have been 11/07. Since I already completed the financial aid additional info and everything back then for my Georgia colleges, I highly doubt I am going to get another additional financial aid email from Dartmouth, which I haven’t. I hope that means I can tell students on this thread that have applied to other colleges earlier and have not gotten additional financial aid emails from Dartmouth that there is nothing to worry about.
This also kind of leads me to conclude that getting financial aid emails - when the Dartmouth is the first college you have applied to - is definitely not a bad sign since they have noticed something missing or something they want additionally in your financial aid application. However, I do not think this guarantees any sort of acceptance, rejection, or deferral, nor does it mean anything for students who have not gotten this email. I think that these dates simply tell the date on which they have received the most recent update you have made on your financial aid information.
I hope this helps! and thank you to everyone who has made a helpful comment on this thread!
