Dartmouth 2023 Applicants Discussion

My school has had only 2 acceptances ever…in 68 years

@screamingkettle My school’s only had 2 graduating classes, and no one’s even applied to Dartmouth, so I think I’m a little worse off than you haha!

here as a RD applicant, rejection from Cornell ED :C

I appreciate all the help I can get!

What is considered a “hook” beyond athlete or legacy applicants? Is being Hispanic considered a “hook” at Dartmouth?

You may get better answers in the Dartmouth forum, regardless, you do not have long to wait for decisions anyway! Good luck!

@MyGPAIsAnL – Welcome. We are a confused and anxious bunch over here (but very friendly and nice). Sorry about your news on Cornell.

Hi! I applied to Dartmouth early decision this year. I just had a few questions! Is it a good sign that they asked for my quarter grades or is that something they normally do for each applicant? Also, I believe I am the only student who has applied to Dartmouth in the last 5-6 years from my high school. Would that fact help me out through the application process or not really?

@minniemouse143 Other types of hooks include: being a URM (underrepresented minority), Native American (especially at D), and a first-generation college student.

Any sense guys as to whether the Admissions Office gives a heads up to college counselors? Has anyone seen anything about this on past threads, etc.?

@123collegehelp I pretty sure quarter grades are requested from every ED applicant and the fact that you’re the first applicant in a while won’t give you a substantial boost, sorry to be a downer but I wish you the best of luck!!! only a few more days!

Would love to know if College Counselors get a heads up! Anyone know?

Hey guys, I’m from the Harvard SCEA 2023 Forum!

Since both of our early decisions come out on the same day, I thought I’d share a post I made yesterday::

Just in case Dec. 13 doesn’t bode well for me, I can still get on with my life bc that’s also Taylor Swift’s birthday & I mean I can rock out to some iconic bops 'cause Harvard & I will probably never, ever get back together.

Like, ever.

('til medical school. Or graduate school.)

But I think we can all SHAKE IT OFF because we know ALL TOO WELL how DELICATE of a situation EAing to Harvard is. Even if we don’t get accepted, we just won’t go BACK TO DECEMBER and instead be FEARLESS and think about THE LUCKY ONE college that you will grace with your presence next fall. No matter where you are, it’ll feel like EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED and you’ll get to BEGIN AGAIN regardless of whether or not you’re wearing RED – er, Crimson. As for our current STATE OF GRACE, our current idea of “College Life” won’t last FOREVER AND ALWAYS; we must be open to CHANGE.

I can’t help but feel like I DID SOMETHING BAD here. :))

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk!

Good luck to all! here from the Duke ED applicant thread

I do not think college counselors get a heads up in most circumstances. I base this off the fact that both of my kids’ college counselors have gone out of their way to request that my kids let them know once they hear from the school. My kids went to different high schools and the college counseling office from daughters school made that request to all students. So based on my limited experience, the answer to your question college counselors do not get a heads up in all circumstances.

That said,I would not be surprised that if a counselor has a special relationship with an AO and/or if there are other special circumstances, than a college counselor may have a sense of where a decision will ultimately land. This is simply my own opinion -

@bosdad – Thank you for your sharing insights. All makes sense and is much appreciated.

if someone gets into Dartmouth ED, would the financial aid package be available in our CSS or would it be in the application status portal along with our decision?

Also, is inferring that rejects wont get a financial aid package correct?

Thank you so much for all the help!

I just got an email requesting a few specific parts of my parents’ tax returns. For those who got similar requests, did you all just submit them through IDOC ASAP?
