Dartmouth 2023 Applicants Discussion

@chemlover22 is it the federal tax returns on IDOC?

@Milo321 they were asking specifically for one part (called schedule E) that they wanted a copy of.

I just checked my portal and there is now a spot for the schedule E and “individual email follow up to family” that they are awaiting.

@chemlover22 Yea I got the same thing in my portal yesterday…

It would seem you two are accepted…

I don’t think they would care about your financial aid 2 days before the return date if you had been rejected.

My financial aid forms changed to 12/11… it probably means nothing and I don’t want to get my hopes up, but I suddenly feel more nervous if that’s possible

the schedule e part of my financial aid is unchanged :frowning: i’m nervous

Mine says schedule A, and the date was changed to 12/10. What’s the difference between schedule E and A?

according to swarthmore college…“Schedule A is the form that you will complete if your parents utilize the 1040 form and they itemize the deductions to their annual income that is assessed by the IRS.”
“Schedule E is the form that you will complete as part of your annual federal income tax return if you have earnings from rental real estate, royalties, partnerships, S corporations, estates, trusts, etc.”

@jellyfishh88 do you know if everyone is supposed to have schedule E? Thanks for the info!

@Bishoptoaster no problem! and no i don’t think so it’s just a certain form you fill out based off of where your income comes from. another one is schedule c which is for people with a solo business (self employed). so yeah if none of the schedule e applies to you then i don’t think you have to!

Okay so you guys are all talking about how the dates for your financial aid changed on your portal, but I didn’t apply for financial aid, so is it okay that no dates have changed? Does it mean anything that I was only contacted for an interview and nothing else?

@jellyfishh88 thanks soo much  I wish you the greatest luck on your result!

Oh I’m terrified… I don’t have and E or an A section, though I am pretty sure that my parents filled all the financial aid our completely and correctly. If I’ve already uploaded all student and parent info, should I still have this section?

I think everyone’s financial situation is different! So I wouldn’t worry too much

Oh also, I’m seeing everyone’s stats on here and it’s crazy how many AP’s… I wasn’t able to take many AP’s (besides APUSH) until my senior year (where I’m now taking 3) due to the schools I went to. This was explained in my college guidance rec, but will Dartmouth take this into consideration? Like if they see me, and a student with the same other stats, but with a bunch of AP’s, do you think they would choose the other student? Like they might say “oh we’ll take it into consideration” but like will they really?? Ahaha I’m super sorry, I’m just super anxious!!!

LOL when my financial aid dates haven’t changed once since I applied…

@Bishoptoaster best of luck to you too!!

I really think they do evaluate students given their academic contexts. If your school doesn’t allow you to take many APs they’ll take that into consideration

@teddy10143 The party line is that if you challenged yourself within your context then they can’t hold anything against you, so if your school(s) didn’t offer those classes, then they say they won’t count it negatively. That said, I’ve definitely had the feeling that unless you have a hook or would boost their diversity, they tend to go for the student who shows more academic promise… but even that isn’t cut-and-dry and requires consideration of other parts of the application.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it, specially since it’s all explained in your application. Sending much love your way, don’t be worried!
