When we get our decisions, lets clear things up with the financial aid dates in case next year’s applicants are as paranoid as we are. I doubt it has any correlation, but it is really weird…
@2023hopeful SAME? my application looks the exact same as it did a month ago…not alone :-bd
Okay great, thank you so much @audreyKang and @chemlover22 ! You’ve really eased my mind haha! I’m Latina so maybe that would help
All these tax forms are giving me a headache. I opted for no tax return sine my mom is an “illegal immigrant”
Guys plz don’t get confused by this whole “omg my/his/her/etc date changed and they are getting accepted” nonsense. This happened in previous years before and it means nothing! Every time IDOC platform or the FAFSA or CSS has any change on your financial aid material (whether u voluntarily changed it or it is a systematic change), it will cause a “date change” on your portal. It has nothing to do with “oh the financial aid office just downloaded my material again”. No, none of that. And just another quick thing, usually they process the material through IDOC the first time they receive it. They won’t just go straight to IDOC or other platforms to download your documents again every time they want to open it. And even if the date change does really mean something, I am sure the colleges are not stupid enough to not realize this. There is no reason to add additional stress to ourselves at this point. Just wait for the results!
i’m curious on opinions so idk how the admissions will perceive me cause i could technically be a minority in some context but it’s a weird combo (asian, middle eastern and white). but my dad has a pretty good job and we aren’t “struggling” could that still be considered a hook? will they hold me at a higher standard cause my financial status but my school has the same problem with not offering that many APs and and e aren’t allowed to take APs till junior year and even then we are limited to the amount we can take.
@jellyfishh88 It’s so hard not to get discouraged with all this date change talk … if there does happen to be a correlation, I hope class of 2024 students don’t get even more anxious if they don’t see date changes near the decision date next year. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.
I don’t think there is any correlation for the date changes, although I’m not too sure if financial aid officers contacting students just a few days before the decision release date means the same.
yah @jellyfishh88 I’m basically in the same position, I’m latina but like we aren’t “struggling”. Ahaha I’m even in the same place as you with the AP stuff. I’m hoping essays will make up for it! I read somewhere that Dartmouth admins are unconsciously looking for the “cool factor” (so like unique stuff)! I think we still have a chance! Good luck!
@Tachanka11 you don’t know any more than we do
@jellyfishh88 I’m basically in the same place! Haha, I’m latina, but not “struggling,” and I’m even the same with all the AP stuff! I think essays are really gonna matter for us! I read somewhere that Dartmouth admins are really looking for unique stuff that makes them go “oh wow that’s cool,” so I think if we have that in our essays we miiiiight stand a chance! Good luck!
whoops sorry i thought it just didnt send but it turns outit was on page 42! haha sorry
@teddy10143 haha! no worries:) the selection process in college is so unpredictable and every officer is different. like there may be one officer who would have accepted you but your application was given to the one who wouldn’t. people are unpredictable in what qualities they prefer in a student. anyways we won’t know for sure tho till thursday! best of luck!
Well good luck on Thursday everyone!
@dartmouth2023plz Can you try like focusing on something else cuz every time I see you post it is about the date change and how it shows you are getting accepted or not. Don’t get so stressed about this. I know other people who graduated last year experienced something similar at other college portals. I also know (most of us know this as well) that the admission process the documents from financial aid when they receive it so they can open it later. They don’t download again and again and again. The date change is connected to the fin aid platforms not the colleges themselves. Anyway, yeah I don’t know any more than you do probably. But most of the stuff I mentioned is common sense. Just think through it and don’t overlook something so simple and minor. (BTW, u seem so defensive everytime someone brings about how this does not affect anything… Not sure why but okay, I am just letting people about these thing. Not trying to argue or direct at anyone in particular)
Ok, good luck for Thursday! @Tachanka11 Please let us know how it goes!
@jellyfishh88 yeah I don’t think u necessarily have to have a hook like URM to get into dartmouth. And also they can’t see your financial status i am pretty sure. About the APs tho, I guess u can hope that they know your school well enough. Otherwise, they definitely prefer more APs. That being said, you are still okay cuz that is the same thing at my school. I started cranking up my APs in junior year too. Not that many in sophomore or freshman year either.
@dartmouth2023plz Good luck to you too! And good luck to everyone else!
I just wanted to say how cool it is that everyone has come together like this to discuss. The enthusiasm everyone has for Dartmouth is just incredible. THANK YOU! I wish everyone luck tomorrow and hope that we all get the result we deserve! oh and also… GO BIG GREEN!
Good luck everyone, I’m so grateful for all the support we’ve given each other over the past few days/weeks/months and hope everyone is happy with their results, but if not we will all end up in excellent places and will all have the time of our lives in college!! try not to stress (I know that is impossible but if I say it enough maybe it will become true)
