Dartmouth 2023 Applicants Discussion

I just got an interview request last night for tomorrow afternoon. Any pointers? is it a bad idea to bring up the scandal?

I would probably stay away from mentioning the scandal because you want to keep your interview on a positive note, but if it comes up I don’t see why you couldn’t talk about it, just be careful.

Ill just ask my interviewer what his opinions are on the campus environment

@Shocker7 I would ask what kids do on campus on the weekends. Ask what a typical Saturday night looks like. I don’t know if alums are the best people to answer these types of questions because some of them went to Dartmouth so long ago. Still may be interesting to ask if the alum is young enough.

My S said the questions he was asked were very similar to what is posted on Dartmouth’s website:

Your interviewer will likely ask you questions similar to these:
Tell me about your school: courses, teachers, favorite subject, worst subject?
Is there a project, paper, lab, etc. that you were especially proud of when you completed it?
What are your future plans: college, major, career?
What activities are you involved in: which are the most important to you and why?
What would your teachers or friends tell us about you?
When you envision your ideal college experience, what does that look like?

Good luck!

My D is also applying to Dartmouth RD. She is intending to pursue a biochem major and she has rather solid stats (4.89 weighted GPA and 1580+878). She is involved in SSTP summer program, as well Ross Mathematics Program. Chance her for Dartmouth?

My son applied ED and is in that odd place where he’s writing essays for other colleges in the very plausible case (even with decently competitive stats etc the ED acceptance rate is one in four that taking into account many of those spots go to legacies, donors and athletes…) he doesn’t get offered a place at Dartmouth, so he’s a bit on pins and needles. Anyone know, do all the ED acceptances go out on the same day or do they dribble in, and is it via email?

Your D sounds very bright and competitive. The essays and teacher rec’s, I have it on good authority, are especially important at Dartmouth - they seem especially focused on “fit” - having well-rounded, interesting students, not just perfect scores, national awards etc. The admissions guy who presented at our on-campus reception said the first thing he looks at when he gets an application file, is the essay(s). Good luck.

I am an international student who applied ED to Dartmouth but I am not so confident about my chances ??

I think that if you are a normal applicant, you should go in with the expectation that you will get rejected. That way you would be preparing for more reasonable schools with a more reasonable outlook, while not being discouraged that you didn’t get in ED meaning that you’re a failure. That makes the decisions result much less stressful, and being accepted much more special

IMHO, It’s better to go in not expecting much and possible getting accepted versus thinking that you had a good shot and being surprised you didn’t make it

am an Indian who is living in Singapore and currently serving my National Service.

I did the IB Diploma and received a score of 38‬. My school does not report grade point average but my transcript has mostly As and few Bs also mainly in English. I had straight A’s throughout Economics throughout high school and that is what I want to study later and even maths was straight A’s barring one semester and I did Higher level Maths and Economics which is hardest possible level available at my school

My SAT score is 1530‬ in one sitting.

I am planning to study Economics and political Science or public Policy.

What are my chances at these following colleges in US and Canada

ED Dartmouth and RD USC UCLA UC Berkeley UCSD Georgetown U of Washington Michigan uni Northwestern Northeastern Notre Dame McGill Toronto and UBC.

I have ECAs such as Serving national service currently in Singapore army , Cricket since primary school , Swimming with a gold certificate proficiency , Campaigning for a political party for which I have even been awarded , Economics short film competition , Economics Current Affairs club , MUN , Law Academy Club , Volunteering in a child labour NGO , Earth Club , Recycling club , Won second prize in maths challenge at school, peer tutoring, Helped Elementary school teacher at my school teach, Mathematics Club

So what are my chances for each of the above stated colleges

@Sheepdogz They are all posted at the same time online on your portal. You will get an email a few days before to tell you the exact day and time.

Did anyone else here get a fafsa verification form on their financial aid checklist? Weird thing is that I never filled out the form and I’m not eligible for federal aid.

Has everyone who applied ED interview yet?

I am done with my alumni interview already

@Shocker7 Yeah I had mine last Saturday

Hope all of you the best of luck!

My daughter did ED last year, happy to answer any questions.
