Dartmouth 2023 Applicants Discussion

Thread from 2015 on the FA Email Fiasco : http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18222127#Comment_18222127

Don’t read into a request from for FA from any school. It’s a lot of information . Sometimes they miss something. Or they need clarification . It means nothing .

IMO, the FA emails and the date change fall into the same previously discussed boat.

THe Fed. Ver doc mightve been sent by u for other colleges. Same thing’s up with me.

12? 10? Damn. I think it really does matter on what they need for comprehensively understanding the kids sitch in financial realms.

What @ARIVERA1 says is true, hence this shouldnt affect admissions chances in any way. As i said before, it was a rumor I heard before, and its definitely near 0 credibility.

I agree with @vickyvic1

The process is personalized so even if you might/not get in, they need the data ready for the aid. I’ve been contacted some times, and yet I’m saying this, as its true from past experiences, no doubt.

Chance me:
30 act
UW gpa 3.85
Weighted: 4.09
My opportunities to take more aps were limited at my hs. I wanted to focus on my true curiosities. I didn’t have enough time to take the act more than once.
Ap’s: 2
6 amazing lors (too many…)
Ecs: orchestra, violin stuff, robotics, NHS + a lot more.
Essays: mediocre to above mediocre
Legacy status: father attended, as well as 2 generations further than that
More distant family who attended on dads side. I hope this legacy status will give me a boost! I hope my stats don’t hurt me… the wait is real guys!

Idk man, Dartmouth is going to be a huge reach for you @jhede1

@jhede1 Everything’s solid.

Just that 6 LOR’s are too many. Ideally 2 Teacher, 1 GC and 1 Peer (Totally 4) is enough. 6 might confuse/conflict the adcom and/or make them spend extra time on that.

Your ACT is at the 25th Perc. so, I guess thats slightly above acceptable.

Legacy certainly helps chances, though There’s nothing guaranteed with that.

What @bigchungus785 says is true mainly due to the fact of your ACT. Ur GPA IMO is good for Dartmouth, not excellent or near perfect, but your GPA doesnt play against u definitely. Ur ACT might.
Its also true cuz the other parts of ur app are subjective in terms of impressing the reader, as is with everyone, so no one can pinpoint the status and help of that. Literally no award/EC can determine a definite worth in terms of admit potential.

Sidenote: What GPA (unweighted of course), do y’all think is good for Dartmouth? I’m curious cuz I get mixed responses on some standard bars.

@minniemouse143 same here! dates (except FAFSA and CSS) changed to 3/22. I know this is just me being stupid but really hope it’s a good sign

@MissBagLady

At worst, it means nothing or is a glitch/mishap from their end, and at best it means that they reprocessed the data on that day again to evaluate your case again. Since the Finaid office runs parallel to the AdCom, it either means you’re not out of the game yet, or it means nothing.

Remember that decisions get finalized officially only a few days/day before Ivy Day (in this case).

I don’t think that’s true because on dartmouth’s admissions page they posted a picture of them doing admissions packages. which would mean decisions are already made

@dreamthief001 Oh! I stand corrected then.

So it may mean the described good news, or nothing at all. Nothing’s an official sign as of now.

It may go either way @MissBagLady

@dreamthief001 where do you see them making admissions packets? On their website? Instagram? I don’t see that anywhere.

@homerdog It was on their instagram story a couple days ago

I didn’t receive an email telling me that the decisions would be out this week (although I already knew this). Does this mean I probably won’t get in

@dreamthief001 hm. I checked the school’s Instagram account and their admissions Instagram and I don’t see any packets being made. And I don’t think anyone received an email saying when decisions come out. Everyone knows it’s the 28th.

@maf2019 maybe you missed it or sent your application under a different email. since im sure they want even people who are rejected/waitlisted to know when to check their decisions, i highly doubt they would only send the email to people who are accepted. check your spam maybe?

When did you get an email?

@homerdog stories only last 24 hours before they disappear, so you wouldn’t be able to see it anymore. sorry i should have been clearer

Ah ok. I will now apologize on two fronts. Just found S19s email from Dartmouth. And I now understand that it was a story on Instagram. Not a post.

I applied Early Decision and was deferred. Under my financial aid, the last inputted date was 2/21. Is this a bad sign? I’ve updated them with a LOCI and additional information (and an additional rec) since being deferred and I think my stats are competitive.

@financekid123 it’s great that you took the time to update them with your LOCI, additional information, and an additional rec since your deferral. You have definitely done everything you could to let them know you are still interested. Changes to the financial aid portal most likely have no correlation with anything. Good Luck to you!!
