Dartmouth 2023 Applicants Discussion

I agree with @minniemouse143

Its just them processing it that late and/or reprocessing it then.

@financekid123 Thats all.

Just realized I’m missing my CSS Profile (I asked my dad TWICE if he listed all of the schools, but he must’ve missed Dartmouth). I haven’t gotten a single email from Dartmouth regarding my FA status, so I’ll post an update on here on the 28th of my admission decision. Good luck to you all!

I got an email from college board saying a college requested additional documents for IDOC! also realized i forgot to send css to dartmouth as well… lol i don’t want to get my hopes up though

@goldilocks2001 That’s neither good nor bad.

Its especially alarming considering the CSS wasnt sent in so many months.

I’d lean towards it being a good sign if the CSS was sent months back. This now means nothing.

I explained why beforehand.

Refer to some of my previous posts in the last 24 hrs to find out why.

Well I am just setting and waiting for the 28th. Applied RD and was ask to interview in December (went great - Interviewer majored in what I am wanting to major in) . A week after the interview Dartmouth emailed me and ask for me to tell them a little more about myself. (don’t know if that is good or bad) . I did not ask for FA so I have not heard or gotten any emails since. Fingers-crossed to everyone.

@brock19

The Dartmouth email u got must be either a result of u mailing them for getting u an interview, or for evaling more data from ur end to get a better pic of u s a person even after the LOR’s interview, and essays.

It means it could go either way, but it definitely meant that at that point you were still in the game, and was being considered for more data.

Best of luck to u and everyone else too.

@theGuy1 they came back and ask about my grandmother and wanted me to write an essay explaining. So you never know.

Hey guys… I just realized the other day that I never got an interview thing for Dartmouth. Is this a bad sign? I’m like almost 100% sure no one in my area went to Dartmouth, but in other situations I have been asked to do virtual interviews. Probably means nothing but I was just curious?

@bethmackenziew same here, but I live in rural PNW though so maybe there’s no one around here to interview me. I’m taking it as a bad sign, especially because I’m missing my CSS profile for them and they didn’t even bother to contact me. Oh well, Dartmouth was always a stretch for me!

@brock19 Thats a good sign to say the least, meaning that they wanted more info regarding some part of ur app to eval u completely. Doesnt say anything about the decision though. The data was needed of u cuz the adcom thot the present info wasnt enuf regarding an aspect. It may go either way.

@bethmackenziew Not a bad sign if u read and can interpret whats written on the alum interview page. Read it for urself. IMO it depends on region, but theres less weight on the interview here compared to other schools. Whats more alarming is that u realize now, clearing raising Q’s about ure interest in the school.

@bethmackenziew Its all random, I live next to Stanford and got no interview ._… Additionally, I got no interview from Yale nor UPenn.

@TheBeyonder

This is because, ironically, if u check the Stanford Interview Areas, most of CA is unlisted, and listed as a no-interview-zone.

The Yale and UPenn thing is random and has no reason, and so is Dartmouth’s interview thing. There are theories floating around that everyone has heard regarding interview offers, but I doubt they’re true.

If you are international in a country with no available interviews, you almost always need to have an interview to get into Harvard (!). But it is only for Harvard. Rest of the colleges/universities do not prescreen for interviews. Especially not Dartmouth, Princeton, UPenn (UPenn interviews about 90% of its applicants, so go figure), and Brown.

I agree with @factoryboylol

Harvard does say that they dont adversely eval apps without interviews, and there are rumors that Yale only Interviews 50% of the apps, but idk.

THe UPenn no. is true. It may be due to:

There may be a prescreening for all the others (that, and a bit more for harvard, if at all) for academic incompetence IMO. This only applies if u live in a region where there might be alums, but they always do virtual interviews regardless (so idk why there’s any issue with no alums in the area in some cases).

THe whole process before granting an interview is very hazy, and one never know for sure about how an app is given an interview for selective schools.

Disclaimer: people in the states dont need to worry about any of this regardless, as based on rumors and on stats, an interview doesnt matter as much.

FOr people living abroad, i think it does, but there are many gray areas there too. (US nationals abroad, and so on)

A correction to what u said: It should be limited interviews, not no interviews, since those places are ones where no interview can ever happen under any circumstance. (According to the harvard’s interview page)

Did anyone get the FA about family assets?

@TheGuy1 Oh no it’s both actually. Where there are interviewers adcom interview the candidates themselves.
@financekid123 what do you mean by FA about family assets? You already list your family assets on CSS profile lol

@factoryboylol Exactly lol. Sometimes they take a long time thinking about the need of more finad info regarding st thats already mentioned, hence may have asked u the app this late. Again, what I say about FA emails and such always is true.

@factoryboylol ah got it. Those interviews are highly valuable and give some insight into the apps chances, though again nothing confirmed except peaked interest. I get what you mean for those specifically, but i think only harvard does these ones.

@TheGuy1 yes! only Harvard does that

I believe interviews are actually very helpful to AOs when they are on the fence about an applicant, or deciding between one against the other. Then I am sure that the interview piece can be a “gut check”, something that can tip in favor of one or another person. Or if one application seems to be “to good to be true” and they want to have a personal view on the candidate to clear the air. So all things being close to equal, the interview piece can be very valuable.

ye but when 2 candidates are ever same? @4coins
