***Dartmouth Class of 2020 RD Applicant Thread***

I chose this one

Tell us about an intellectual experience, either directly related to your schoolwork or not, that you found particularly meaningful.

And I wrote about problem solving methods that I learned during my preparation for international olympiad.

I chose the name one and did a nickname I have. @Grapess Did you write about…well…grapes for your essay? You said it was about food and your name is grapes after all!

Accepted: Loyola Chicago, Miami (OH), Fordham, Colgate, Hamilton, and RPI.
Rejected: U Chicago, Northwestern
Waitlisted: Williams, Vanderbilt
Waiting: Dartmouth, Brown (Deferred ED)

@Grapess I understand! Definitely don’t have to share :slight_smile:
@jacobpilawa Those are good schools to choose from so far! I was waitlisted at Colgate and rejected at Williams, neither of which I was too upset about because I recently decided I didn’t want to be so far from home.

@jacobpilawa HOW DID U KNOW. Just kidding. No, I didn’t write about grapes. It has more to do with junk food :))

@admitmemaybe I actually wrote essays for each topic, thinking that they were all required. I wrote them on a Google Doc so I had no idea that there was only space for ONE essay. So when I found out that I didn’t need to go through all that trouble thinking up 5 cool essays, I was just like… :open_mouth:

I chose “Tell us about an intellectual experience, either directly related to your schoolwork or not, that you found particularly meaningful” and wrote about my summer volunteering as a tour guide at the MA state house and how that experience influenced my love of history and politics and led to my choice of a government major!

I wrote the one about your hero. It was all about my sister, a Cornell grad who’s 10 years older than me, and how her accomplishments have pushed me to do great things. I included a little anecdote at the beginning that was funny, and overall I’d give it an 8/10.

do you think an admissions rep would be annoyed if you referred to Dartmouth as Darty

I got into UCLA but I really want Dartmouth but it probably won’t happen for me. Getting ready to SIR at UCLA lol

@terr24lr - is “Darty” a nickname of Dartmouth? If not, I don’t think they would find it amusing. If it is a nickname, then you may have scored a few bonus points. Only thing worse than misspelling a college name, is to refer to a different college.

Nope! No one calls it Darty

@eiknarf no I don’t think it is a legit nickname I was just asking in general lol. Darty, Corny, Penny…I guess it’s not as funny as it sounded in my head (btw I DID NOT put Darty in my supplement. That would be asking to not be taken seriously haha)

Lol i wrote about how people called me patch because My huge cheeks make me look like a cabbage patch kid. Hope they think it wasnt stupid

@rebellax7 People told me I look like a cabbage patch kid too!

@admitmemaybe lol i hope they admit me just to see my cheeks

I wrote mine about me joining a community where I was the youngest person and thus they all called me “Baby Jake!” I tied it into how that community has helped me develop my skills and competitive side…I hope they like it.

good luck @terr24lr. the process will be over in a few days.

Hi friends!! Congrats on surviving this incredibly intimidating and rather daunting waiting period … I cannot believe that “Ivy Day” is in two days! Make sure to wear your green on Thursday, and best of luck with EVERYTHING! ¡Que será, será! :-*

I chose the tell us about a name prompt too and the name I wrote about was Ratchet(my friend’s nickname for me). IMO, it’s certainly not a common nickname and it might stick out(in what I hope are all the right ways). I included a little dictionary entry of the word with its pronunciation/usage/definition before I jumped into the actual essay though just to make sure the admissions people got it haha

Edit: I forgot I also talked about marrying into the British or Monaco royal family :))

Are decisions announced by email followed by mail?

^^ Essentially yes. You get an email telling you to check your portal. Then mail comes awhile later. At least that’s my recollection from son’s experience last year.
