***Dartmouth Class of 2020 RD Applicant Thread***

Good luck tomorrow, y’all!

I chose the intellectual experience essay and wrote about a book called “the human nervous system” by Murray L. Barr. I connected my studies of neuroscience to society and perspective and how learning more about how we think and view the world impacted the way I viewed social issues, events, articles, and other people’s opinions.

Except my dumb self used the word “stimuli” in place of “stimulus” like 3 times.

good luck to everyone!! in an attempt to soften the blow tomorrow i’m going out with friends for a nice lunch… nothing like a big bowl of soup noodles to heal the soul :9

Less than 24hrs!!

Peer recommendations give another perspective to the colleges but it’s ok if you don’t send one. They will only think that you have no friends

I sended one but my friend wrote like 2000 words about me. I know the decisions already been made but I wanted to know someone else’s perspective on this. I know LOR’s are usually one page but can a four to five page letter affect me negatively? Just want to know other people’s opinions.

@harvard2020babe : No. If admissions got bored, they’ll just stop reading. You can’t control what your friend did, and it will not be held against you. Take a deep breath and wait for the morrow.

Hey guys! In a way to make us all feel better, what would all of you say is your best “hook” on your app?

@jacobpilawa My biggest hook is that I’m an Asian female from New York.

LOL

I actually never understood hooks. Can someone explain what they are?

I kind of meant it just as what you are proud of/what you think stands out on your application!

I think people normally refer to hooks as something that really makes you stand out like first generation college student or being a URM.

@jacobpilawa Okay, now I’ll be serious. I’m a figure skater and I think that’s sort of unique. Don’t know if it’ll help much tho lol.

First Gen. URM!

My only hooks are first gen + URM (+female URM in physics???)

I don’t know. I’m very underconfident. I don’t feel there was a hook on my application in terms of something unique about me.

@emilyskates Did you send a video of you skating to the coach of the team too?

I’m a model signed with top agencies in NYC, London, Paris, and LA and lived in all those places over the past year and a half (walked in Fashion Weeks, etc.) and was in an AT&T Super Bowl commercial

I talked about how boredom has lead to some of the most important discoveries about my life and who i am. Probably a really big risk but i thought it turned out okay. Don’t really think i am getting in with a 3.7 and 2000 SAT… but since i am a URM i figured i would give it a shot.

I was also in the top 50 people for the role of Rey in the new Star Wars

@hoggy247 Y r u so cool. (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)

@Grapess haha hopefully it sticks out enough for admission!
