***Dartmouth Class of 2020 RD Applicant Thread***

Does the research paper need to be published in a journal?

@SirPepsi Where is the link on the common app. I cannot seem to find it

This may be a bit silly question, but is peer recommendation letter absolutely necessary…? Would it hurt my chances a lot? Honestly, I am really not sure of to whom to ask.

@rvdcancan It’s “optional” but you really should do it. It would hurt you if you didn’t do one. Just ask a close friend who knows you well.

RD applicant here. I’m really hoping I get into Dartmouth since it feels like such a good fit for me.

^ Same here. I was accepted SCEA to Princeton, so I definitely have one great option already, but I can’t get rid of my crush on Dartmouth. It seems like a great fit for my personality and interests.

Exact same situation haha.

I dont understand Dartmouth policy toward Sat II’s. On their FAQ page and their application tracker they say that basically mandatory then on one of their main website they say that it is recommended but no mandatory especially to those with financial difficulties.

Wait so now we can submit our applications by January 5th (instead of the 1st)? Will the common app let you do that and will Dartmouth frown upon someone doing that?

guys but ivy day is during my birthday :frowning:

Thoughts on this? (from a recent Dartmouth email of FAQs- http://admissions.dartmouth.edu/class-2020-last-minute-questions)

  1. Do I have to submit SAT subject scores?

No. Dartmouth does normally require subject test scores, but we will evaluate your application without them if you are not able to submit them. For some students, the cost of the exams is prohibitive. Others have not been able to schedule the exams amidst their various academic, personal and extracurricular commitments. Whatever the reason, we will review your application without subject test scores.

Quick question: can we submit our apps before the peer recs are in, or do we need to wait until they’ve been attached? I have my best friend writing mine right now, and she said she’ll be done soon.

@allista You can submit your app before the rec has been submitted. You recommender really doesn’t have to submit into mid January or later (my peer rec is gonna do that because its such a busy time)

@fruitfly2020 Thanks so much! I’ve been hesitating to send my application because I was worried that they needed to be in; that’s a relief!

Hey guys, I had a question about the supplement. Regarding the question “Tell us about an intellectual experience, either directly related to your schoolwork or not, that you found particularly meaningful.” would talking about my experience learning new instruments, most recently the banjo, not be an appropriate subject matter? Not very ‘intellectual’?

I think that would be fine.

How should I notify Dartmouth about an competition that recently concluded? I placed well, and I feel that it would add a lot to my app

Should you submit FAFSA before getting accepted or wait till you get accepted (seems like FAFSA submit deadline is before decision date)?

It seems FAFSA can only list 10 colleges. How do you submit for more than 10?

Did my interview at Starbucks today with a nice lady.

ughhhhhh i totally messed up on my part though, went on dry tangents about stuff that didn’t really matter and interview was still only 30 minutes at that. definitely one of my weaker interviews.

Anyone else have interview stories to share?

Hi, I’m an international applicant, and just had my interview today.

We held the interview at where he worked ( a high school ) and I would say it was a bit nerve-wracking, because the whole time he was asking questions from his ipad and typing in my answers. He also asked a couple of situational questions that were trickier. Only at the end did he start talking about his experiences there and I could finally relax. The interview lasted a little over an hour. I might have bombed a few questions, but overall I would say it neither helped nor harmed my application.

Hope this helped
