Wow! Was there a decrease in the number of international applicants due to recent change in the FA policy? It would be interesting to know that
DS was contacted for an interview within a day or two of submitting his application. He is a legacy applicant and had a great campus visit last summer so didn’t really feel the need for an interview. When he finally fit it in (took a few weeks-senior schedule)-the interview was mostly about the great time he had had at Dartmouth, how much he loved being part of a fraternity and how much they partied. Didn’t seem like there was anything he would have had to report back as feedback about our kid.
I know that decisions will be released on Thursday, March 31st but does anyone know the time?
@Kingb543 Typically, the Ivies all release decisions around 5 pm EST.
@frenchtoastlover Thank you!
You’re welcome
Woah I just got an interview request. The alum said that apparently the deadline for interview reports was extended, so that’s exciting! I was not expecting one this late
You’ll do great @azhang40!!
Has someone here received a Dartmouth likely?
my interviewer was a joke. All she talked about was her sorority and parties and boys. I was so offended by her insinuation that I would find a good husband at dartmouth. pathetic. I took time out of my day to meet with her and it was truly a waste. Could have been studying for my national competition at the end of the month.
^^ @ronburg11 Don’t let that put you off the school. She is just a person who used to attend, no more and no less. Put that experience in perspective, alongside all the other things you know–and presumably appreciate–about Dartmouth.
You’re right @b1ggreenca, I won’t let one person ruin my idea of Dartmouth, even if she did go there.
International applicant from Taiwan here. Good luck to all of you! less than one month left haha
My interviewer was admittedly a little annoying. They were like a freakin’ gerbil nibbling at everything I said. I understood that they wanted to know more about me, but they should’ve let it come naturally. It’s not like I’m an unfriendly person that’s not willing to open up. It’s just the blatant, uncouth prodding that got on my nerves. Also, not that it’s a bad thing, but dartmouth is sort of like a clan. Every alum or student has an intense dedication to the school, which is off-putting to me. They expect you to be a family–as if a Dartmouth education is the end-all, be-all to your existence and should be noted as such even if you’re in your late 50s and have don’t have the job a degree from them was supposed to help you get. LMAO
Either way, it was an insightful experience, as it ultimately made me realize that dartmouth is NOT the place I want to be at. Good luck to everyone else, though!
^^ @berkeleybetch Sorry to hear that your experience with the interviewer was enough to put you off the school entirely! For what it’s worth, my son is a student there now and, while he is enjoying the experience and feels like it was the right choice for him, I would never categorize him as a gung-ho cheerleader for the school like you describe. And if he isn’t, then I would bet the bank that there are a lot of other students and alumni who aren’t either! So if you liked everything else about the place, then maybe it deserves a second chance?
@berkeleybetch @b1ggreenca Interesting … although my S didn’t make a negative comment about the Dartmouth interviewer, when we asked him about his favorite interview, he left Dartmouth interview at the bottom. Um…
It seems that his other interviewers left a stronger impression in him than the Dartmouth one. This interviewer was the youngest of all.
I also think that alumni are not always the best indication of current students. Alumni seem to develop a romanticized idea of their school once they’ve been in “the real world” for a while. They grow increasingly loyal as the year go on, and some get oddly protective of the institution.
I have found that my best interviews were with interviewers just out of school. They actually had answers to the “cons” questions about the school. Older interviewers couldn’t come up with any downside to their school.
I guess I’m the minority that thoroughly enjoyed my interview? I think we had a really good conversation; conversation mind you, didn’t feel like a interview at all.
My interviewer was fairly young and didn’t have as much experiencing in interviewing applicants. Weird at times, but nonetheless it was enjoyable!
My interviewer was this really old alumnus who basically grilled me and at times seemed a little judgmental and condescending about my activities. However, the interview session was 2 on 1, so there was a young alumnae there as well who was quite pleasant, but the alumnus was the one who asked questions and drove the interview. Was a little off-putting, but my love for the school remains intact.
