@Grisham2020 I applied ED for Class of 2020 and I didn’t get an interview request. I believe no one else got too.
But the interview does not handicap, since they acknowledge that a lot of candidates do not have access to interviews, and now I’m a proud member of the class of 2020
@anotherdude no, India does not tend to have Dartmouth interviews
when do likely letters get released
Last year, at least one wave of Likely Letters went out in the second week of March
FAFSA is in!!! They finally processed them and updated their system.
My son has not heard from Dartmouth yet for an interview. He has been interviewed by a couple other Ivies already. His father went to Dartmouth. Although he isn’t an active alumnus, he knows there are alumni in our area and believes there have to be interviews going on. We live in a suburban area. Should we be worried? Should my son contact the admissions office or wait longer?
You can send an email to admissions to check on the interview process. They’ll in turn contact the area interview director to check. I would recommend doing that today though since there’s only a week left in the timeline. But please have him check his spam folder for any emails he might have missed. The email to interview doesn’t come from any official “Dartmouth Admissions” email account, and I know when I send out emails to contact students about an interview, the most common reasons for ignoring me are A) SPAM folder or B) Didn’t pay attention to an email from a random name they didn’t recognize and it got lost in the shuffle
Thank you very much for the information. I will pass that onto my son.
I had my son check all his e-mail folders carefully and no message from Dartmouth. He needs to call.
Dartmouth actually sent my husband (the alum) a letter via snail mail that they have received our son’s application. It is dated 2/5, but we got it today. It says that Dartmouth got over 20,000 applicants this year and they only accept about 10% of the applicants. They said that the legacy admission rate tends to be around twice that the regular admit rate and that our son’s application would be given careful consideration. I thought this letter was strange since Dartmouth has not contacted my son for an interview. He actually got contacted for an interview by the only other school we were waiting on, so now Dartmouth is the only school that hasn’t contacted him for an interview. My husband thought it was a nice update on how the process is going but he also felt like they were saying, “Don’t be mad at us if we don’t accept your son.” I know it isn’t a rejection letter, but it really felt like it was a rejection letter.
My son is the valedictorian of his class, NMSF, a varsity athlete and a musician… had high test scores, awesome teacher recs, comes from a traditionally underrepresented state, and is taking a very challenging senior class schedule. I didn’t read his essays. He could have used more community service and some diversity in his ECs. It is too late now for any of that.
I am just worried. I hear that any of the Ivies could fill their class many times over with similar, highly qualified applicants. I am not sure how they will decide. The next 7+ weeks will be painful.
I just got an email for an interview.
i just emailed them
Hi guys, just did a Dartmouth interview and walked away with mixed feelings. On one hand, the interviewer said that I would really like it there, on the other he said that the admissions process is really competitive. He seemed slightly interested in my extracurriculars, yet he folded his arms and leaned back on his seat at times. The interview lasted around 45 minutes.
Was that a good interview?
Last year people started receiving likely letters the day after Presidents Day (Feb 17th). The letters were marked the 11th.
@michaeleric I wouldn’t worry too much. Some interviewers have different styles, and what’s important to one isn’t as important to another. Most of my interviews last 30-60 minutes, but shorter isn’t any worse than longer necessarily. Plus, as a tip from the interviewing side - the interview doesn’t hold a lot of weight with Admissions. It does just enough to get a borderline student a second look or to act as a tiebreaker when Admissions is on the fence between multiple applicants. Our goal is partially to present a personal view of who you are, which means there’s no wrong answers, and partially to let you ask us anything about Dartmouth.
my interview lasted almost 2 hours and it made me regret not applying there early decision
Any likely letters today
No sane person should be inquiring about Likely Letters. That foolishness should simply stop. You’re only setting yourself up for a fall. The few – the very lucky few who do get them – are the best of the best and Dartmouth really wants to put on the full court press to get them to choose Dartmouth.
If you happen to ultimately get one – congrats! Bask in that glory! But no one should be so filled with hubris that they’re *waiting for one.
Dartmouth is a jiggly college.
Hey, any idea about the total number of RD applicants this year?
20,550 applications total (1,927 ED, 18,623 RD)
