***Dartmouth Class of 2020 RD Applicant Thread***

3/31: http://blog.■■■■■■■■■■■/blog-0/class-of-2020-regular-decision-notification-dates

@kunchandak and @AboutTheSame thank you for the information and good luck to all!

Received a very personally addressed email about F/A. Should I make anything of that? It was completely written to me and only me, and was very specific.

If I were you, I wouldn’t put much stock on it. It will only work against you … it will create expectations that you don’t know.

But if you want to … it’s up to you.

Good luck!

this thread is so dead, let’s spice it up! lol, sorry refreshing these threads is the only coping mechanism i have for the crazy anxiousness i’m feeling while waiting for decisions

@layla2016 - how about we state 3 reasons why one wants to go to Dartmouth?

@shivaya I like it! Ok for me:

  1. I like the D plan, dartmouth students can choose when to have time off so they can acquire internships while others are in school. It’s unique, so I think there could possibly be a smaller applicant pool for those internships.
  2. Obviously, it’s an amazing school. My interviewer described a very tight knit community, and he said the Sophomore Summer really contributes to that.
  3. Not such a serious one: I have always wanted to ski/snowboard, but my family has never gone (mom fell off of a ski left 20something years ago and didn’t want to try again lol). So I would absolutely love to take advantage of Dartmouth’s outdoor programs involving winter sports!

@layla2016 your #3 above really cracked me up. My son is a '19 at Dartmouth. He grew up in a family not much into snow sports and I always felt bad for him that he didn’t get to do the skiing and snowboarding that he was dying to try. As a little boy I told him that when the time comes to go to college, he can feel free to pick one where it snows–by the way we are in California. So wouldn’t you know it, when the time came he chose Dartmouth, and his first winter quarter made sure to take snowboarding for PE!

@b1ggreenca that’s great! If i’m fortunate enough to get in and end up going, i will definitely do the same for PE. It will be the first time since elementary school that I’ll be looking forward to PE!

Since I can’t think of anything else to do to gnaw off the anxiety of March 31st, I’ll jump in too.

  1. I loved the atmosphere of the school when I visited! It felt so homey and although it was definitely the coldest Ivy (temperature wise; completely the opposite temperament wise!) I feel like the tight knit community really makes up for the rural, out in the middle of nowhere feel.

  2. Small class sizes, amazingly brilliant classmates, study abroad opportunities, research opportunities, ah!! Just thinking about these things makes me feel so excited, which scares me a little because I know getting excited for these awesome experiences will only make a rejection feel even more sour :frowning: ah, the catch-22 of waiting for college decisions!

  3. The outdoorsy-ness of Dartmouth! First Year Trips sound like such a good way to bond with new people and make really good friends! I’m from Michigan, so snowboarding and skiing are in my blood. If I could have the chance of attending Dartmouth, snowboarding will definitely be a huge stress reliever and a great way to exercise during the winter.

I can’t believe that senior year has gone by so fast and regular decisions are right around the corner! It’s frightening and awesome that we’ve already made it to this point in our lives; it feels like just yesterday that I started high school! These next two weeks are about to fly by as well, and I hope that we all achieve our dreams in some way or another ;

  1. Proximity to a major airport
  2. Lack of frats / party life
  3. Big city atmosphere

For me it’s

  1. D-Plan
  2. D-Plan
  3. D-Plan

I am in love with this whole concept. Its available in different formats at some schools but not the flexibility that Dartmouth provides. This opportunity is unique in its true sense.

@yalebound2020 My interviewer told me Dartmouth had the biggest party culture of the Ivies… And the social scene revolved around Greek life…

What other schools have you guys applied to?

@thetsaria yea same that’s what I heard from my interviewer too! I also applied to Georgetown, USC, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, boston college, Duke, Bentley, Fordham, American u, and George Washington u!
How about you?

@BureaCat All the Ivies, plus Stanford, 3 UCs(Berk,LA,SD), NYU, Johns Hopkins, Rice, plus a few safeties in my current country (I’m a US citizen abroad). I got a LL from Columbia, I really REALLY love Dartmouth’s D-plan, outdoorsy-ness, and Greek life (I really want to join a sorority!), but living in NYC would also be really fun. It would be a difficult decision if I do get into Dartmouth.

What about you? Is Dartmouth your first choice? Have you heard back from any schools?

@BureaCat (love the username btw) I applied to and am waiting to hear from all the ivies except Cornell and Columbia, UChicago, Northwestern, and Boston University. I have been accepted to UMichigan, Northeastern (honors), Syracuse Newhouse (honors), Boston College, Fordham, U of Pittsburgh (honors), and Penn State!

@thetsaria Dartmouth is definitely among the top 3! But I got deferred from Penn Wharton (just realized I didn’t put Wharton in my previous post), which is my first choice. And I’m also really really excited about Georgetown and Cornell too!!

@thetsaria @layla2016 I’ve only gotten into Fordham honors and deferred by penn :((

@YaleBound2020 – new here & saw the comment about you being on forum in many a spot. Care to share the 12 apps; your stats, etc. Your username seems like Y is your heart’s desire… What major interests you?

Hey everyone! How is everyone feeling? I’m pretty nervous for the 31st.
