Hey, how much does being a first generation college student impact my admissions decision?
@collegegirl000 Being a first generation college student really helps. It’s a good hook.
Is it considered a hook if only one parent went to college?
@skiergirl5098 Probably not.
@skiergirl5098 Definitely not.
I’m an ORM with two parents who each have Graduate Degrees (but not from Dartmouth) xD. Hopefully that won’t hurt too much. Regardless of the outcome, I’m happy though - everyone who’s admitted deserves it, and everyone else will end up somewhere great, work hard, and succeed.
How to they know you’re a first gen college student? CommonApp section on family or FinAid bit? Because I’m technically first gen too (y)
@LucasKovacs Although I’m not 100% sure, I think it has something to do with that part in the CommonApp where you put in information about your parents – you know, like what your parents do for a living, the education they received (degrees, college/high school graduate, etc.), and so on. Once again, I’m not sure…
So did all of us accidentally let all of our friends know? Everyone is just waiting with me
Important question here. Do you guys think the interviewer will have any clue about our admission decisions?
@CC142857 I wouldn’t guess so but I reckon it depends on the college… last year at my Harvard interview she kind of expressed that the relationship between the interviewer and the college is fairly colloquial. That said, I’m from the UK, and that was Harvard- Dartmouth’s interview was much more formal
@coolestnerdever we only got a couple more days to find out so rest easy only my family and a couple friends know though
@LucasKovacs OK. But I guess I will just wait until the results are released. Thanks for sharing though. Are you Dartmouth or Harvard undergrad?
@CC142857 wooah don’t get that impression. I tried Harvard last year and didn’t get in, so now taking a gap year let’s hope I’ll end up at one of those two places though haha. Do you anything planned for when you find out?
Ohhh damn I have a question. If one were to get accepted ED to a college but applied for financial aid in the regular decision round, would it still be considered?
Also, if one submitted an incomplete application for ED, would it still be revisited during the RD round?
Thanks <3
For your first question, ED is binding. If I get it right, it’s only possible to drop out ED when the school doesn’t satisfy your need. Otherwise, you have to withdraw all your RD application to accept the early decision.
For the second question, sorry I have no idea.
Ah yes. And sorry, I meant ‘deferred’, not accepted:
“If one were to get [deferred] ED to a college but applied for financial aid in the regular decision round, would it still be considered?”
Thanks @CC142857
I should think so.
