How good is the Economics Department at Dartmouth? Is there a Finance department or is it part of Economics department? Is it a target school for IBanks? Thanks.

I would assume that IBanks would think highly of Dartmouth, it has a solid reputation overall.

Economics is huge at Dartmouth. The two most recent Secretaries of the Treasury are Dartmouth grads, and firms visit all the time to recruit undergrads. I’ve had a couple friends get internships at Bridgewater and then go on to work there after graduation.

current student here – The econ department is one of the big departments Dartmouth is known for (think Stanford for engineering and Brown for hipster studies). As so, it is probably one of the craziest departments since pretty much every other person is an econ major, double or minor so be ready to WORK. If you survive, though, your prospects are pretty solid – all four valedictorians were econ majors and are working for Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and the likes now. As for finance, we don’t have a specialized department but there is a finance track in the econ department which is econ 26-36-46 here:

hope this helps!

Also worth noting that you don’t have to be an economics major to get into iBanking. Math, Engineering, Mathematical Social Sciences, etc. are all equally valid ways to go into banking from Dartmouth.
