Newbry, that rocks. Truly the thing to do. You'll get in.

now that i think of what i had done, i am afraid i mgiht get sued by Dartmouth, because i plagerized their likely letter

That's brilliant! I wish I had thought of it!

No one is going to sue you...the letter they sent you wasn't copyrighted, and even if it was, it's not like you copied parts of it for commercial gain or anything. Legality will be the last thing from their minds when they open that up.

thank you for easying my mind

Newbyreborn,

wow. that's very cool.

honestly, I wouldn't worry or get excited--the decision has already been made, I would think. Now it's nothin but the filing.

i know.. but i still think this is a great idea...

that letter would bump a borderline applicant to a waitlistee, and a waitlistee down to a rejectee...VERY bad move Newbyreborn

Unfortunately, I have died from laughing so hard

It IS very amusing. Nice work, Newbyreborn.

The only problem I see is that the "lowly" members of the admissions staff who will be meeting in committee (or individually) to determine the fate of your application might not have the faintest clue what these "likely letters" that Dartmouth send out look like--after all, they are written, presumably, by Dean Furstenburg himself.

And even if they have, at some point, seen these letters, I doubt they are so familiar with them that the similarity will be immediately obvious. After all, a lot of Dartmouth's literature begins with "Greetings from Dartmouth!"

If they aren't familiar with the letters, the humor will fly completely over their heads and they'll be left wondering what exactly this kid is trying to pull.

wow, you guys are really getting me worried. now that i think of it, it may have been a really bad move, but i didn't think i have much of a chance to begin with. so i figured i had nothing to lose lol

It was either a really good move or a really bad move. To be honest, I didn't think you were going to get in to begin with after seeing your stats...so it can only help, right?

yeah, that was my initial thought, it's like an action potential, all or non lol

I think it's clever and shows that you like the school. Certainly sets you apart. However, they might not appreciate the constant mention of "yield rate"...or the adcom may lack human emotion and think it's not funny. Anyway, bravo!

haha, i like it. other people are jealous they didn't think of it first.

haha I know I am. :p

did anyone else send a plain old letter of intent? if so, when should they have been sent by? I think i sent mine out late...

but hey, i think this will help you, Newby, if you're on the fence...if you're already in or out, it's not like they'll change their decision based on this adorable idea.

you sent one, blu?

I actually never thought of it.
