Got a letter from Dartmouth... does this mean i'm in?

okay so im just gonna type what it says:

Dear _________,
Greetings to you from Dartmouth! I hope your senior year is going well and that you are enjoying your courses and activities.
My purpose in writing is very simple--we have reviewed your application and think you are an outstanding prospect for Dartmouth. In fact, I recently read your file and was exceedingly impressed with your academic accomplishments and intellectual potential. There is no question that when we make our final decisions at the end of March, you will be offered admission to the College.
I see no reason to delay letting you know about the promising status of your application, and I hope that this early indication will "ease your mind" a bit. The college admissions process is unnecessarily long and anxious for many students. So, relax, get back to that book you meant to read, and use this time to reflect on your plans and goals for the next phase of your education.
If you have any questions about Dartmouth, please let me know. In the meantime, best wishes for the remainder of your high school experience.

Sincerely,
and this was actually signed by hand not electronically,
Maria Laskaris

^Yes, you guys (or gals) are.

Congrats! Go enjoy yourselfs now :P

Congratulations to all recipients!

yes i got one too! I was so confused just because I had never heard of a likely letter before but it’s awesome and totally unexpected! I’m confused, is this an unofficial yes or a, you have a 70% (or something like that) chance of getting in? I don’t want to get my hopes up too high but from the wording of the letter it sounded like we got in.

got one and am super psyched!

ladybug20 - it means you got into the school, 100%. You will only get it rescinded if you screw up your grades, go to jail or something of the like.

For somebody who got into Dartmouth, you seem to have poor reading comprehension, haha. Congrats.

My daughter got the same letter today. She is very excited. Hers too was hand signed. Congratulations to all. This happened really fast as her interview was just last week.

does this mean i dont have to do an interview now?

COngrats on the likely letter. IF you have been scheduled for an interview, you should still go to the interview as the interviewer will be able to answer any questions you will have about the school.

These likely letters are because the top schools are competing with each other for the top students and they all know it. Dartmouth is hoping by letting you know now you will in all likelihood be admitted you’ll get excited about them and decide that Dartmouth is your first choice. If on the other hand you didn’t hear from them until they sent you an official acceptance letter it might be the third acceptance letter you’ve gotten that week and you might already have gotten excited about another school.

You must all be remarkable students.
