**Dartmouth International Applicant's Thread 2017**

@rishav- i tried getting recruited for swimming.

@quiverfox- that is, indeed, impressive!

yes, i read that- being indian is an anti-hook. >>
gah. i am really going to stop posting/going through these ivies forums.
makes me more miserable of where i wont be able to get into (..)

@Raith - that sounds interesting - the garden idea!! :)

@rew - CC’s turned into an addiction for me. Every time I open my laptop, I open 3 tabs - one for CC, one for my mail and one for FB!! haha!! :p

After 6 months on CC, I’ve come to the conclusion that I will get only ‘useless’ acceptances from my safety schools which have not so great merit-scholarships!! In short, India for the next 4 yrs!! :D

And ohh great another swimmer!! :slight_smile:
What happened? Did they reply?

@Raith,quiver,everyone else - All this talk about research being a hook has gotten me thinking as to whether or not I should send the colleges an abstract of my thesis(on the generator I talked about long agoo!!)?? Problem is that it hasn’t been proof-read by any scientist at such and I haven’t done any practical research on it!!

But then again, it can’t hurt me can it??

@Rishav
Thanks- its hopefully going to help her with her store.
I actually think submitting it may hurt. . . Its really late and it could just seem like you are trying to make your application better - which can be good, but it may be a problem : / But maybe ask?

I think ask, because it could hurt by giving them TOO much to read. But it’s possible they will think oh good, more to show your interests etc

@quiverfox that’s such a great thing to do. I’m not sure if you’ve answered this before but are you getting more people to use that system? I’m sure a lot of people would need it!

Ok so… I’m thinking write a mail on Monday to all colleges, saying something like - “I’ve recently worked independently on an engineering idea of mine and would like to know if I can submit an abstract of it to be a part of my application file??”

And then if I get a positive feedback, I’ll go ahead with it??

I think that is the best way to go about it :)

This thread slowed down, but I still missed quite a few things. :D

Btw, I am just thinking about taking a year off if I don’t get accepted anywhere. Do you guys know if my teachers/counselor have to fill out the recommendations again when I reapply/apply to other colleges? Or do I even have to create a new account in August on Common App and all my data are gone? - Thanks :)

@rishav. Yes. Mera Bharat Mahaan.
It’s high time I realize this fact and start working on my boards prep and Indian competitive exams.
And yes, send them an email about that research abstract.

I did some research as well, and bad attached it to my CV and sent in the additional section of Commonapp.
In addition, I also sent an addition flawless essay. :slight_smile: it expressed and explained me better than ANYTHING. So I sent it .

I send an email for recruiting first in the month of feb-march which was too early for them, and then I sent in November end. By that time they had already recruited swimmers.
Every college was like- recruiting season is now over. (Mid/end of November it was), but Yale and Princeton said even though they had selected their recruited athletes, I should still send them my timings.
I did. Mine was good, but missed by seconds. Lol. But in swimming, seconds is like HOURS in real world. Err, another swimmer can co-relate.
I tried to get recruited only at ivies because I was wanted to attend one of those ONLY and not any other college. Back then, I hadn’t even short listed the list of colleges.

@rishav. Touch

Sunny-
Yes, everything’s gotta be new!

Also, I was thinking on same line- gap year. however, I then read that I won’t be getting in at the universities where I will be rejected this year.
Simple logic- If they have already rejected me once, what different thing (impressiveeeee thingie) do I have in order for them to reconsider me?

I read, that in very rate cases do they accept such applicants unless they have done something different and extraordinary! You’re otherwise bound to get rejected straightaway

@rew
Oh no. I think my teachers won’t be really happy if they have to write the recommendations again :confused:
I know, but I would try to do something amazing in that year :D

Ya guys, I think it’s high time we consider Indian competitive exams seriously. No way will I be accepted into any top colleges in US. I am very disappointed actually :’(

Good luck with your exams! ;)

Hey guys in India! !! All the best on your exams.

And guys, stop worrying about where you’ll be accepted. Some school(s) will love you and if you do not get into your first choice, you may see the light at one of the other schools and potentially have the best four years of your life. You’ve already sent in your apps. All you can do now is wait, hope and pray (for those who do).

And you guys are much better than me!! I don’t have any major awards or anything and my SAT grades aren’t good. I haven’t done any major research like quiver or anything.

And again guys, stop worrying!!

@quiver Congrats on your achievement. I hope you will be even more successful later on in life.

@kd…well I am expanding my customer database to 6 times what it is now(and making 6 times the money also:D)
Oh and keya thanks a lot!!!

@rew - You sent in a lot of add. material!! Hopefully it compensates for your low ACT!! :smiley: Ohh btw, Sunny12 is in the same boat as you - a low ACT!! :)

Ahh that’s sad… to be off by a few seconds!! I thought about getting recruited for football - but I found out late in December!! What’s worse - My UPenn interviewer who had studied in Bangalore before - told me that football at few of the Ivies is not that strong and that I could’ve actually been recruited!! :/

Btw, I was thinking of transferring!! :slight_smile:
Bump up my SAT, get some more national/international achievements, maintain a high GPA throughout 1st yr… and then see what happens!! :smiley:
The only problem I face is the no-aid for International transfers policy in place at many top universities!! :/

@rishav
I thought about transferring, too. But yea, that’s the problem the no-aid and I will definitely need it. Isn’t it even harder to get in one of the top universities as a transfer? :/

Its really hard to transfer though!!:(…

@Rew
Yea, seconds really is a problem with swimming… they are easy to fix in longer distances, but over 50 and 100m… almost impossible to reduce your times by a couple seconds if you are at/close to your peak :confused:
I am about a second off MITs swimming times for what they gave me, but I don’t know if I can improve that much - we will see. Good luck.
What were your times and strokes if I may ask?

@Sunny
I still think you will get decent offers, but yea, if you did take a gap year I think you will have to try WOW them with something major or a couple things!

@Indians :stuck_out_tongue:
Good luck for all your exams hey at the moment - you all seem like such great candidates that you will all do brilliantly! :slight_smile: Crossing fingers and toes for you all.

I know it is tough, but I think everyone needs to stop worrying :stuck_out_tongue: no one here is so far off that they have no chance at all. Just keep working hard, follow your passions and don’t let anything get in your way of making your mark on the world! :)

Just got accepted to University of British Columbia. Pretty psyched! At least I know I’ll have somewhere to go next year. :)
