Dartmouth RD 2025

My son has applied to Dartmouth. I converted his A-Levels grades to GPA (using scholaro) and the cumulative GPA is 4.0. He is an international student and he has submitted CSS profile. What are the chances that, due to want of financial aid, Dartmouth will reject him?

I don’t know if those are the figures, but what I can tell you is that I think you are not considering those who get an offer but decide not to attend. So even when the class ends up having 1100-ish students, there were more offers given. So for example, last year, 1973 students were offered admission and 1058 enrolled.

96% chance of being rejected. Which applies to all internationals. But that still leaves 4%.

Thanks. Yes, I was assuming a yield of around 64%. So accepting around 600 rd for a yield of around 380 to amount to around 1100.

Oops…that’s not comforting but thanks for being honest. Fingers crossed. How do we compare Dartmouth vs McGill University, their top of the line Bcom program from their Desautels school of management? Some say McGill is reputed and called Harvard of Canada. Is it true?

@skieurope are you saying that if we had unchecked financial aid in commonapp, the chances are better for a full paying student?

McGill is an excellent university, but I know nothing about their admissions statistics.

One question, will the fact that someone from my high school was accepted to Dartmouth in the past, and deferred admission to the class of 2025 decrease my chances of getting in?

No.

Thanks @skieurope. My son have offers from top 3 Canadian universities for his chosen program. He is waiting for Dartmouth decision. He likes the school, their program and their ethos. He had an alumni interview and he did well. I don’t know how much that weighs into the admission decision. Regardless, we need some financial aid and if he gets i to Dartmouth I don’t mind taking additional personal loans to send him there.

Dartmouth is need aware for internationals, but the admissions rate for full pay internationals is ridiculously low as well. It is pointless to play “what if” at this point.

So funny! Similar scenario at our house…D21 was sold on U of St. Andrews too. What a beautiful place and a fantastic school! The only thing that she said would bump it from her top choice was Dartmouth. Luckily, she got in Dartmouth ED, so we are rejoicing that she is staying “local”: only 1500 miles away instead of 4000!
Best of luck to your son!
