Dartmouth vs Air Force, ... help! (football related)

jdjag: Please make sure your son reads these threads also.

excellent point…will do so.

S committed to Dartmouth this am.

Thanks to all for sharing your views.

Congratulations and best of luck!

Congratulations and best of luck for his future football (and academic) career!!!

Congratulations. Hope you are celebrating. Most be a huge weight off. Don’t look back.

It’s always nice when OP comes back to update people.

Congrats, and IMHO it was a great choice. The AFA is really there not for a free education, but to make the best military officers. 5 yrs is a long time to serve if you only did it to play football and go for free.

No doubt he’ll be very happy there. Congratulations to the whole family, I know this was hard for DW!

Thanks all.

You bet its a huge weight off…all his coaches were pounding the table
for Air Force.

S simply said its was his life, not his coaches’.

Our DS’s friend was in a similiar situation last yr…full football ride to UNCW, partial merit to NCSU. He chose NCSU, because in his words he was never going to be a pro football player, so his education mattered the most. This was a child on the All State team…not a shabby player, but he saw the big pic and that was what he was going to do in 4 yrs from now, not next Oct.

Also many AFA people will tell you, the quickest way to leave the AFA is to become medically dq…football only adds into that risk.

GREAT pick!! Congratulations!

bulletandpima, Your S’s friend got a full football ride to UNCW? Did you mean soccer?

Congratulations, jdjaguar! Thanks for reporting in. Hope you get to some games next year- seeing your son in that uniform will be worth the struggle.

already planning on it rr!

what time of year do the leaves peak in Hanover…mid September?

I doubt we can get that same corner room at the HI overlooking the green, though :)

No matter…the road to Dartmouth’s next Ivy League championship starts today!

Congratulations! and enjoy … all of you!

Go Big Green! (Buddy needs all the help he can get.)

Congratulations. Can I ask what position your S was recruited for. Dartmouth is a great school. All the best.

How wonderful to have such a happy ending to your son’s recruiting experience! Thank you for sharing your results. All those days in pee wee football, and in the High School weight room have paid off for your son and hopefully for Dartmouth in a great recruit. They need one! Keep us posted as to how his journey goes!

RE: I attended another Ivy and I can’t say it actually opened any doors.

I don’t know your particular circumstance but through my S’s experience, he got paid internship with the same major engineering co. 2 years in a row which only recruits at specific schools, had taken courses from top well-known professors who were active in industry, made connections he otherwise wouldn’t have made, and got into a grad program with full ride. His friends all but one got good jobs with well-known companies even in this difficult time. The only one who didn’t get hired right away was his choosing, not sure if he wanted more school or joins the work force, and was in a general major instead of pre-professional. I am sure my S’s work ethics had a lot to do with it, but the environment and resources and networking that are available were there to support him. So I begged to differ and present my view on whether Ivy school really makes a difference.

Congrats to your son.
