Date of Orientation and Choosing Classes

It is my understanding that you pick your classes at orientation. And while I believe they save spots to assure everyone gets in the classes they need, I am not too sure if this is true for electives. So if you pick a later orientation, do you get last pick of electives?

I do believe so. But don’t take my word for it.

The bad news is yes, you’ll get the last pick.

The good news is upperclassman filled up the good classes months ago so orientation date doesn’t make a huge difference, all freshman are semi-equally screwed.

The other good news is there will still be plenty of options and your advisor will make sure you get placed in the classes you need.

Also, don’t give up hope. I was in two terrible electives and I had the first orientation slot. However after the first day of classes I went to talk to my advisor and it turned out spots had openned up (from people switching around) in two great ones, so I took them. You just have to keep on top of it and usually things won’t end up TOO badly… Although freshmen get stuck with 8 ams pretty often.
