After a very emotional college decision roller coaster ( don’t get me started about the track coach at Rice who promised the moon and delivered a big fat zero!) my D decided to cancel her enrollment and opted for UF instead. With the Georgia legislature approving the second 9% tuition hike in 2 years and knowing it would take her more than the 4 years the Provost covered, she went for the full National Merit ride at UF for 5 years but intends to be a Yellow jacket for her master’s! Good luck to you all and congratulations!!! We love GT and will be back!!
She also gave up her spot on Honors Program so that might free one up for someone!
My girl got offered Honors this week. Thanks!!!
It is an amazing school- just too expensive for us at this time but hopefully our D will get there for her master’s. Glad your girl can take advantage of all that GT offers.
I actually knew three kids who each gave up the Stamps scholarship, and three more on top of that who gave up the Presidential scholarships. I think most had positions in Honors/GC but I never asked ha. Best of luck to all hoping for more money
I think what happens is that some of these top kids use GT as a safety ( which I understand but do not agree with) and then they get off a waitlist for an Ivy or Stanford or the like and then give up their Presidential at Tech. We had already decided that if my D received the Presidential ( she made it through the first interview but did not get invited) she would definitely go to Tech. The Provost was a huge honor and surprise but just not enough money for her goals especially with the skyrocketing tuition hikes in Georgia ( 18% in just two years!!), it was a no brainer for her to stay in state but we love Tech!
