waitlisted at ucsd, uci, and ucsb. finally accepted at ucd.

But YEAH! CMON! DAVIS!! SUCK ME!
Congrats to EVERYONE again…who got in! =D Yay for you
Sucks for us =(
But CMON DAVIS!

balls.
3.6 gpa, 2200 SATs, started a club for students with disabilities, treasurer for Health Careers Club, VP for Venture Crew, volunteer hours up the wazoo, track, marching band, heavy course load…
and rejected. excuse me? balls.
guess it’s community college for me, then, because I was an idiot and didn’t apply anywhere I could get in to.

…excuse the rage.

this is SERIOUSLY MAKING ME WORRY. I am a transfer student but I am still worried that I won’t have a chance…Davis is the only UC I applied to =/

My friend missed ELC by one B and ended up getting rejected. She had good essays and lots of ECs, and she’s held officer positions all four years of high school. This makes no sense.

Luckily she got into her dream school, which was UCI, but still…

wow, I didn’t know that acceptances to Davis would be so hard. I received my acceptance today by email (kind of lame), but I thought it wouldn’t really be a problem getting in. But then I read your guys’ stats, and I’m super confused as to the whole process, and how I would be able to get in if you guys didn’t

I have really good ec’s and mediocre essays, but my stats are low
3.6/4.0 gpa
SAT I: 2130 (but college board is so ridiculous, I’ve been fighting with them for the past month, because they only sent my 2030 score reports to my colleges, but I reported 2140 on the self report)
SATII:
Chinese 790
English 670
Math 670
ACT: 31

I’ve taken overall 11 IB classes, and my math is two years advanced.

Does this mean I have a chance to Berkley? I applied to San Diego too but for some reason I can’t log in to check my status.

If those with higher stats are getting waitlisted, logic would suggest that as others have suggested, there are better schools that would heartily accept them. With the new budget constraints, the introduction of the waitlist allows for the UC campuses to cater to many more students. After all, if one student gets accepted into all of the UC campuses, he or she will only attend one of them.

Clogging up space just so that someone has bragging rights is a bit counter-productive and sadly… quite greedy, no?

are ucs completely independent?
like… admission to one uc doesnt affect another’s

idk a friend told me that it has to be that way, while others say “some colleges reject because they know a diff school will accept”

Lrinwain…that’s not logical at all, even from an outsiders perspective, I’m pretty sure even if they don’t work independently that’s just bad for the system as a whole - what if someone could go to Berkley, but really wants to go to UCM?

and …wait… you guys have been talking about the UC gpa the whole time! oh my gosh I did not know that my UC gpa could be so different from my high school gpa.

leontejwani, I think their decisions are independent.

perhaps Davis is cranking up the admissions…or maybe just putting more emphasis on personal factors? seems like they alot more points regarding personal situations than UCSD does.

Agreed. UC Davis’s Point system makes a difference. I’m guessing I was admitted to UCLA because of their holistic approach to admissions rather than heavy weighing on certain aspects of an applicant.

hairypotter: UC gpa is only 10th and 11th grade. What I said there sort of made sense to me. But I realize that you are right and it can be argued in many ways.

Not only is UCD weird, the WHOLE UC system is so random/crazy this year!! I got waitlisted to Davis, but got into UCSD… makes weird sense. I was expecting the other way around…

Hopefully this weirdness will only benefit those who feel Cal is a reach (ME!). I don’t think any of us would complain if we weirdly got into Cal.

yeah i have to 100% agree with multicolore, i’m feeling exactly the same

i got into davis and not sb but sb was my dream school, not to complain about davis tho!
i had a 3.5 uc
3.8 unweighted
1920 sat
lots of ecs. im planning on appealing, honestly what do you guys think the chances are for them granting me an appeal? Thanks! and sorry to anyone who didnt get in : /

perhaps there are complaints every year about how crazy admissions are. they generally are crazy, because you don’t know everyone’s situation.

I was getting really nervous about how everyone else’s GPA was like 4.3 or 4.5, but then I realized with the UC gpa, my gpa jumps like 0.4 ahah

There is a thread like this every year. Acceptances to every UC are always ‘weird.’ It’s always more than a numbers game, don’t forget.

did you all miss civil engineer’s post?
look at his gpa, scores, and what, TWENTY AP classes.

you can have my place civil if you want, im going to UCI

really sucks to all those that got rejected here. i feel the same way about ucsd… waitlisted there. it hurts to see people with seemingly less gpa/sat/sports/community service get in. but thats life, eh?

he took 20 AP exams… not AP classes. and his UC GPA is only 4.1.
But I guess it is really random.
