Unbelievable!

What’s wrong with UCD??? I mean I got into Irvine, santabarbara but not UCD!!! I’m in a shock right now! that’s not even possible! How could they do that??? Is It dicrimnation/Racism In their admission???

LoL

Word on the street is they're tightening up admissions standards at Davis.

^-- Yeah. That's what I thought. I guess Davis got tired of having Irvine and Santa Barbara competing with them in the ranks.

also, they accepted too many people last year, and got a pretty big (7%) increase in applications this year, which probably made it considerably harder to get into this year.

Well one of my friends got rejected from Davis but accepted to Irvine and SB, while my other friend with considerably lower gpa but slightly higher sat score got into UCD. Weird.

What college or major did you apply for?

I applied Undeclared/Undecided.

You know, maybe that's a factor. =</p>

I heard they don;t care about major plus my counselor said not choosing a major is better, cuz sometimes the major is overcrowded and they reject you. I don;t think that's a factor.

I don't know, because I was flipping through the acceptance thread and several of the people who got accepted had some pretty unique majors. I think that may have been a factor.

Well, you can rule out race because affirmative action is banned.

yeah, my friend got into irvine and santa barbara but not into ucd! im shocked!

My friend got got into Georgetown early, but rejected from UCD. I'm in complete shock.

LOL Affirmative action banned?

Bakke v. Reagents of the University of California, look it up. Quotas banned, but not race taken into consideration in any other manner. They can't set numbers of minorities to take, but they can decide to take a lot in general.

I got into Davis but not SB :(

Barfdog, Proposition 209. Look it up.

If AA wasn't banned, why did the UC's find it "unfortunate" that their minority numbers went down? I'd say what Davis is doing is the right thing. By making it a lot more selective to get into, the school can finally break the tie it has with UCSB in US News and gain ground against Irvine.

my friend got into davis, but was rejected from sdsu, csulb, cal poly, and ucsb. in-state

Lol, I wonder where your friend is going symphonyinblack. Are you serious that he/she got rejected from CSULB? I can understand SDSU (Local newspapers are talking about how they made it more selective), SLO (The right major can be fairly selective surprisingly), and even UCSB (UCD and it are virtually even), but CSULB is the immense safety net for most people isn't it? Wow, I wonder; if competition is this hard just getting in to these schools, I can only imagine our class of '07 will be X___X while competing for top grades when we're in all these colleges.
