Days on the Lawn closed already??

It's only the 5th of April and all the DOTL are full? That's just crazy. My son couldn't commit to a date until he could be sure to get off school. He made arrangements today at school, and when he went to sign up, it said registration was closed.

I think it's a shame that many potential students will miss out on these events. I don't see how he can compare his choices without this event. I seriously doubt he will want to come on a regular campus visit. His previous campus visit was not the best, and he and I were hoping he'd have a better impression at DOTL. This isn't helping.

Not much the University can do as of now. Dean J on another thread posted that they are trying to make student/parent groups who signed up for 2 days to commit to 1 day. After that happens, more slots might open up. And if there still isn’t enough by a large majority, UVA might try to host another day for students to come visit.

Many potential students do miss out on these events, but it’s not UVA’s responsibility to get every student to sign up. They are doing everything they can to include as many students as possible. Let them try to relieve the situation, and hope for the best!

If the situation doesn’t get resolved, just go anyway. You don’t need to actually register to do most of the activities. I highly doubt that they would, or could effectively turn you away.

VAMom2015: DOTL is opened again except for April 18. I suspect it is full because it is spring break for many northern VA schools.

Not sure when it opened up again but I was signing my daughter up to visit a class and saw the status change.

Thanks! And thanks to UVA. This is really important for my son and he’s pretty happy. He just signed up.

Nice, constantly checking this paid off! I just signed up for April 22!!! So excited!!
What do you think would be a good class to visit for a Chemistry/Psychology Major who’s also Pre-Med?

Wow thats a real shame that I missed it by a half hour. My spring break is the 18th-22nd, it is also my mom’s spring break and she is a teacher so those were the only two days we could go. We are 6.5 hours away so it is a big time commitment, I wish there was some form of a waitlist to get a spot for this. The 8th and 11th are no good because both my parents are going to a wedding to go to this weekend. Maybe I will just go anyway.

NJDevil: I think 6281597 is probably right and you can just go. If you look at the schedule, it is mostly information sessions, tours and class visits for prospective students. Maybe you should just call and explain that you can only visit on the 18th or 22nd.

Dean J explained on a similar thread that you can go on other days, but keep in mind that you will be spreading their resources fairly thin. This probably won’t effect your experience too much, though, and you will still get that excited anticipation from touring with other new admits. Have fun at DOTL, everyone!

Please do not just “show up” at DOTL. We are already over capacity. We aren’t the “big state u” that some people seem to think we are. Adjustments are made around the University to handle the crowds, but if hundreds of extras show up, everyone’s experience will suffer.

If you didn’t signed up for DOTL, consider coming another day. Without the crowds, your day might be closer to the day that a current student experiences. There are open classes every day and there are student hosts for overnights most days. Check out the Plan a Visit page on the website to see the options.
