I have a feeling A LOT of people registered for multiple dates, even though we said that space is limited. Give the DOTL folks a day or two to contact those people and ask them to pick one date. I bet that will open up spaces.

I’m surprised by how many people emailed/called asking if they could sign up for multiple dates. If some called to ask, plenty probably didn’t ask and just went ahead and did it.

I’ll post an update here if/when spots open up.

Dean this might be a stupid question, but can’t you just show up for the DOTL? I mean is uva really going to be like “no, u didn’t register…go away”

Haha that was my next question… What are the alternatives to dotl? Visiting campus and anything else? Oh and also does visiting the campus offer a similar experience as dotl? Cab i still talk to department ppl and inquire about my program?

I know a lot of people who are opting to visit schools on an alternate day, avoiding the admitted students days altogether. There is some distinct merit to this. You can certainly take tours, sit in on classes, eat in the dining halls, etc., on other days. If you have never been to that particular school before you get a much better idea of what the school looks like on a ‘regular day’ as opposed to one where massive amounts of admitted students are there. Having said this, my son is going to DOTL, however he has been on grounds many times and feels he has a good idea of The University. The other school he is considering he specifically did not want to go on admitted students day. It’s personal preference, but you can certainly get in a lot of the things that go on during DOTL on another day, without the crowds! :)

Check out the Plan a Visit page on our website if you want to schedule your own day on Grounds. There’s a list of open classes and links to request an overnight host.

Some people love the high energy feel of DOTL and others are happier to explore on their own. Do whatever you feel best meets your needs. :)

By the way, we won’t turn you away from DOTL, but people who show up without RSVPs stretch our resources (food, student volunteers, staff members, parking, etc.). When the crowds are too big, the experience suffers.

As a student, I never liked DOTL…always made parking at Central Grounds garage more difficult, particularly when I was late to class ;)

Seriously though, you can visit anytime. I think there is a lot of merit on going on non-DOTL days because you’ll get a more ‘authentic’ view of life at UVA. Also, be sure to check out some UVA-construction project. UVA isn’t UVA without construction! For me it was the Rouss, South Lawn and Hospital projects. Now it’s the newer dorms… If you are going to visit classrooms- visit a little bit of everything: Rouss/South Lawn (newer) and Old Cabell/New Cabell (older). I know New Cabell doesn’t look like much - many of the classrooms needed updating (at least as of '08), but there are some sweet study spaces (particularly in the giant window sills).

We’re over capacity on all DOTL except Scholar’s Day.

We’re working on planning an extra program for admitted students at the end of the month, in light of losing the April 15th DOTL to the President’s inauguration. If it happens, I’ll let you all know.

I hope this does come to fruition (even though my D already has a spot for a DOTL) because it would show that U.Va. is responsive to the needs of its accepted students.

Only the 8th and 11th left. Crap, I was hoping to go on the 18th or the 22nd cause that’s when I have spring break. I can’t miss AP Physics or AP Calculus, especially since we’re doing AP review :|

I’m just going to try to see if spots open on the 18th or 22nd.

Today I called the admissions office and asked to be on the waiting list for this Friday–they e-mailed me within two hours and told me they could fit me in! I’d suggest people definitely at least giving this a try, the people in the office were so nice and helpful! Can’t wait to see UVA!
