DC parking permit

Does anyone have any experince trying to get a DC parking permit (not AU) while not being a DC resident. My student is a fourth year moving into a rental house that has parking permit only. She needs a car as she has an internship in Maryland during the school year. The DMV has info on their website but I’m not sure we can get the documention they need. My insurance already said no because of the location. Her houses is in near Tenley town so the location is nice. This is difficult and any help would be appreciated.

On a positive note, she just enjoyed a year abroad and had a great experience. She is now back and getting ready to finish up. Her last three years at American have been great. Good luck to all the new students.

My son had an internship over the summer and ran into this. The way it works is that you park on the street, then you get something in the mail that says you need to get a permit if you are a DC resident or if you aren’t a DC resident, then you can apply for an exemption. To get the exemption, you need to send in proof of out of district rental contract or mortgage statement and a utility bill. Then you get a letter in the mail that says you have the exemption and to keep the letter as proof in case you get a ticket.

Thank you. What a pain in the neck. We are getting it worked out now.
