I'm sure this question has been asked before but I'm so desperate right now I got no time to search it up, sorry for the redundancy!

Most schools I'm applying to have the Jan.1st deadline. Does this mean the admissions office has to RECEIVE everything by that date or does it mean that i send everything by that date???
Thanks !

that's the question i asked yesterday.
in fact it says postmark deadline Jan 1st. This means you have to send everything by that date. No matter when they receive your material they will consider it equally if it was send prior to Jan 1st.

The problem is that colleges differ so there is no set answer and you really need to check with the particular colleges; some of the variances:

Most require postmark of the application by then but there may be a few who want everything in their hands by then.

Of those who require postmark of the app by then, many require postmark of the transcript and recs by the same date but many just want those in their hands by about mid-January and they can be postmarked after Jan 1.

Almost all accept December SAT/ACT test scores (and thus prior test scores) by regular delivery even though the testing agency may not transmit them until after Jan 1. A number even accept Jan test scores.

100% of colleges I've seen (from the most elite on down) say the deadline is January 1st, but on further review the key word they use is postmarked. I would think all colleges would be this way, because you can't really account for various clerical errors, delays and random acts of God when it comes to shipping times, but a postmark can be a firm date.
