Deadline

My friend on the west coast submitted his application to Harvard today. According to our time zone, EST, he would be considered late because we are three hours ahead of him. The common application date on his account says submitted 1/2. Will Harvard still review his application or is he screwed? Thanks guys. This is my first time on College Confidential.

Your application is due at midnight in the timezone that you live in!

So good news for your friend!

The same thing happened to me, since I'm on Pacific time which is 3 hours behind EST. I clicked submit, and the browser took like 3 minutes to load it, during which the clock passed from 8:58 to 9:01. After reading the support section on this site, however, it says "most colleges will still accept your application if you submit it slightly past the deadline," so I'm banking on that. If someone could confirm the situation on this, though, that would be great.

thanks polkadots, I was typing while you answered my question. ironic.

Jimmy, even if it had been strictly EST, the admissions office will still receive it! So there's some hope, no matter what. :]

I wonder what kinds of emails they get from kids past the deadline?

"Dear Admissions Office,

I know I sent in my application at 12:09 central time, but I'm hoping you'll take my word for it when I say I write from Anchorage, Alaska, where it is still 11:09 p.m. on the first of January..."
