Dean's Ford Motor Company Scholar?

Hey guys, I got a certificate in the mail a few weeks ago notifying me of my status as a Dean's Ford Motor Company Scholar. I was trying to look up online anything about this honor, but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what this is about? Is this honor selective? Are there any substantial benefits to it? Thanks!

Ummm, the article has nothing to do with the so called Ford Dean's Scholars. In fact, as of a week or two ago, it's no longer Ford Dean's Scholars, but only Dean's Scholars.

So I'm one, and I believe there's about 30-40 of us per year out of the 300 students in the McCormick class. We're selected by UG Admission and no, there are NO substantial benefits to it. The point is to bring the smartest (as deemed by the Admission office :)) students from McCormick together, so they can get to know each other. You get to go to events for free with the other Dean's Scholars, so I guess it can be kind of fun. Unfortunately, most events are during classes and I've been to like 3 of them.

The events might be lunch with faculty members, a boat trip down the Chicago river, the Chicago auto show, and basically anything along these lines. Not really a big deal since the class is so small that you meet the same people anyway. But hey -- it's stuff for free most of the time!

Well, the article has SOMETHING to do with the program:

"The Ford Motor Company Engineering Design Center will also support a Scholars program for selected incoming freshmen."

Not much, but it's there!
