I’m looking to transfer from UNCG to NC State this fall. I’m trying to transfer as a Meteorology major and I have a 3.5 GPA and at the end of this semester, I’ll have 31 credit hours.
These are the classes I took this year:
First Semester
Major Concepts Bio
Piano
An Intro Philosophy Class
Intro to Communications
An Honors Seminar
Mythology
Premodern Global Development
Second Semester:
Bio 111
Bio 111 Lab
Chem 112
Chem 112 Lab
Intro to Roman Civilization
English 101
Just give it to me straight, what are my odds of getting in? I’m really nervous but I need to know if I’m probably not going to make it in.
Sweetiepie…I like what I see and I think they will also…
I believe you have a decent shot. Because you have at least 30 credit hours and a great GPA, you are definitely one of the more competitive transfer students. The chemistry, biology, and english composition courses improve your chances as well. Considering you want to transfer as a meteorology major, I think 4 semester hours of physical science and/or calculus would have almost made you shoe in. Overall, I believe you will get in.
Here’s a good source for you. Look under the college of sciences section and meteorology will be at the bottom along with marine sciences, geology, etc.

Thanks! Someone else told me that because I don’t have a math that I will definitely not get in. Is there any truth to that?
oh man. Do you think the Admissions office would consider letting me adjust my major on my application? Maybe to something like Biology? I can’t take another semester here, and I can’t go home. I don’t know what to do
@uncghelp It would not hurt to ask them. Im sure you can switch majors as long as it is before the deadline. I’m not sure what the requirements for biology are, but I know having math courses would have made you more competitive. Perhaps, you should get in contact with someone at NC State (admissions officer or an advisor maybe) to see what you would be a good fit for.
I’m in the same boat as you with basically NEEDING to get get in. I applied last year for fall 2017 and got denied. I’ve applied this year meeting all of the requirements. I’m so nervous. I want to call them so bad and beg them to tell me their decision.
I am also transferring from UNCG to NCSU and I still do not have my math requirement but most Social Work programs have a stats class IN their program that counts for a math credit so should I really be that worried?
@Kennedytouncorncsu - This is from their website for transfer admissions & review. If you are going into Humanities it looks like that non- statistics math is required.
