Death Certificate?

My friend is appealing to Davis, and he wants to write about the death of his grandmother (which happened RIGHT during the week of November 30th, so it was way too late to edit).

Well now, he’s experienced her loss, learned things from it, and still did well in school in spite of the pain (his grandmother was basically his second mother).

Would it be appropriate to write about his grandmother & how he’s rediscovered his passion for agriculture in his appeal? He has told me that it will be difficult to explain such circumstances in 350 words but he’d try.

He also doesn’t want to write a sob/pity story, but I honestly feel as though it will be his best shot, since he got rejected by UCD basically because of the point system (he’s lower-middle class, parents went to community college, and no major traumatic incident has occurred to him until now).

I’ve also heard that if you appeal about someone’s death, UCD will require you to verify it with a death certificate. Is that also true?

Documentation in support of your reason for appeal can only strengthen your appeal. It is unlikely we would ask for documentation to prove the circumstances and situations presented in the appeal. Please make sure any supporting documentation, if any, are received by our office by the appeal deadline.
