hey guys, just wondering if there's any benefit to submitting the application by the recommended deadline, the 15th? or do you think there are consequences to waiting till jan 1?

help? please?

I believe that the December 15 deadline is suggested so that Princeton doesn’t get inundated with applications on the last day. I would try to honor their request. If that’s not possible, then I do not believe that submitting on the deadline will hurt you.

Mathgirl is correct. Princeton received 27,000+ regular decision applications last year. This year they only received about 3500 for EA, so you can still expect another 25,000 or so to come in for regular decision. It would be disastrous if all of those came in on the same day, so the Admission Office asks that you not wait until the deadline to get yours in. They suggest December 15 as a good date to shoot for to keep you from scrambling at the last minute as well.

mathgirl21 and Tigerlicious are probably right. And this is just an anxious applicant speaking here. But, decisions from most ED/EA schools come out right around that time. If one applies to an ED school and gets rejected, chances are that the institution will remain at the top of the applicant’s list. However, I believe ED applicants are contractually not allowed to send out other apps until they hear from their ED school. So, this may just be Princeton’s way of weeding out those who were deferred/rejected from the ED/EA rounds at other schools and will only now apply to Princeton since their number one choice said no or wait until spring.

Again, this is just my speculation. But I really do suspect it holds a semblance of truth.

You are incorrect. An applicant may apply RD at any time to any other institution but if accepted ED must withdraw applications to other schools. EA and REA applicants also may apply RD at any time, but are not required to withdraw RD applications if accepted.

Mathgirl is again correct.
