For all you DECA'ers out there. ICDC isn't until late April, but I qualified today so I was wondering if anyone else had yet, or had SCDC coming up. Either way, would love to hear about state and how you did!

I have states in about 2 weeks, for entrepreneurship written event. What competition are you participating in?

Nice, is this your first time? I’m doing sports & entertainment individual, placed 4th/70 at state. I also did International business plan with a partner, we were probably only a spot or 2 from making nationals.

I placed third in Business Services Marketing at states. Unfortunately, in my state only the top two can proceed to nationals. I’m going to the ICDC for the Leadership Academy, though.

Dang, what state are you from?

Delaware .

Is DECA not big there or something? Bigger DECA state conferences probably get more representatives- it’s top 6 for us. Either way, Orlando is gonna be great.

@Seahawks:

Yes it is, however, I’m actually basing the project off my current business by creating a new online repair strategic business unit, so I’m pretty excited to compete! I’m in michigan, anyone else going to be competing in Grand Rapids 2 weeks from now?

Not big at all. We don’t even have regionals. Hell, our state conference only has like 15 schools in it. Our state’s more focused on BPA.

^^Nice! Hopefully you’ll impress the judges with having your own business. for our international business plan, we brought a local seafood chain (ivar’s) to china. We did really well, but not good enough- scored 94/100.

What hotels are you guys staying at?

Delaware’s at Rosen Shingle Creek

Damn, that looks like a pretty nice hotel. For us, I think it’s the hilton.

I have DECA State tomorrow through Thursday, and I’m staying at a Wyndham Hotel.

Good luck man! first timer? Let us know how it goes. Too bad for us, we didn’t get to stay in the nice hotels for state because we lived in the city that was hosting SCDC!

Also, I’m interested in how other peoples opening/awards ceremonies went. Ours had blasting music and a lot like a rock concert, and the awards ceremony felt pretty intense. Also if you made it to nationals, what was the awards process like for you? It’s always nice to re-live an awesome moment…

I got DECA for ny in 2 days…mad pumped for it! this is my 4th yr doing it and i have made nat’s the last 2 yrs…, and i hope to make orlando!!!
Anyone doing the hospitality team decision event…

The award process is amazing btw… crazy and loudddddd… and also a ton of people
I was lucky enough to get in the top 10 for my event so it was incredible!

Top 10 at nationals? nice!! Are the test/role plays harder at nationals?

Quick question, anyone know where to find a sample of a visual aid, that placed in nationals? I’m starting my visual aid, for entrepreneurship written event, and I have no idea what to put on it. I would appreciate if someone could help me out, this is my first year competing!

There’s 2 ways you can do it, I think; one is to have posters guide your presentation. This means they’ll have neatly done graphs and cover points that you would need to talk about, the important ones like target market, market analysis, promotion, etc. Mix in some useful pictures/visuals and throw in a bit of creativity/artsy touches.

The other one is to have a powerpoint type presentation, going over the the analysis stuff that requires words, on your computer/flip-chart binder and to use the poster as a way to present large visuals.

That’s what we did, and we got 57/60. We ended up getting 94/100, which got us 6th place in International Business Plan (very comptetitive) at state- top 5 move on. Unfortunately for my partner (I’m still going for individ) no one in the top 5 dropped out.

I love this thread :)

Hope to see everyone at ICDC in Orlando! I’m still choosing between my written project or the individual roleplay, but either way I’ll have to cram-study before the conference.
