Hey you guys,

Next year there's going to be a DECA club at my school (for those of you who don't know what DECA is, it's a business/marketing club, and you go to competitions and what not), and I REALLY want to join!

The thing is, my current schedule really does not allot time for ANOTHER extra-curricular activity my senior year. This means I've got to drop something, and I chose Newspaper Club as my EC that I would drop. However, I founded the Newspaper Club and I am the EIC of it, so it wouldn't make sense to drop it, right?

Why would I even think about dropping something I've started, you may ask? Well:

Here's the deal. I really had a passion for writing (I still do), and I really wanted to become a journalist and thought about majoring in journalism in college. This was during my fresh/soph years, and I even wrote for the local newspaper (didn't get paid, of course).

But then starting this year, I fell in love with business. I feel as if it's a better match for me than journalism, and I entered entrepreneurship and financial planning/investment contests, and I actually did fairly well (okay, Honorable Mention...whatever).

And as all this was happening, I realized didn't have that same old fire I did for newspaper and journalism anymore. It was still there, sure. I wanna minor in journalism in college. Indeed, I took over the club as a junior, and as an EIC at that...but I found it tough to get others motivated into doing something that I love. People stopped coming to meetings...and we haven't gotten an issue out yet this year. With junior year on my plate, I don't think I've done the club justice this year and was totally unfair to its members by not contributing my time.

(Since it's not a class at my school, we get 2 issues out at most - that too, electronically - every year)

Now that I think about it, I could conceivably do both. But I'm not the kind of chick that does stuff to "pad her resume" - I only do it if I love it, and I think I'd love DECA and learn a lot from it. It's just if I quit newspaper next year, it'll look poorly upon myself and the club in general. I love newspaper too, it's just not as big of a love anymore. Newspaper does take up time in my schedule, monthly meetings and a whole lotta writing and editing.

So, your thoughts? What should I do? DECA vs. Newspaper? Continue with both? Help please (:
