December 2009 Math II Discussion

I am pretty sure a=2 for the no solutions prob… i am pretty sure… cant totally remember it as ax=a+2x … if a=2, then it would be 2x=2+2x… that cannot be solved. i could have remembered incorrectly tho

@ rawkfist: Um, I actually don’t remember. I do know that I plugged each equation into my calculator, and only III worked… though I might have mistyped something.

The only reason why I ask that is because if the interval was open, then I think choice I was also correct.

were there different restrictions on II and III? I couldnt be it

x^2<4

I put (-3, 3) after changing it from (0,2), because it asked for the interval which CONTAINED ALL values of x so that <4. clearly, the quadratic equation makes all negative values positive, in which case [-2,2] would be correct. that choice wasn’t given, so the next best was (-3,3)

r=-q
2 nonreal roots
x(symbol)y= abs(x) … same thing as (-x)(symbol)y
rotating 10 (-8,8)
cylinder 37,5 (1,25^21,5)16= 37,5
standard deviation doesn’t change… sure about that!

xyz perpendicular lines on A SINGLE point??? no idea, i put 2.

did any get empty set… I am soo failing this test

Wait, I’m getting confused here.

What the question actually said was this: 0 < x < pi/2.

Again, I might have messed up…

I put 2 points for that one, and the one with the frequency table I put 2

i thought i got an empty set for something too
and pi wasnt related in that one fledging

i dnt remeber the answer, but i remember it was an easy one… but i remember an answer something (0,1,z) — not sure fi thats the answer i put down cuz i forgot it, but it was something like that

I think for that one I got (0,z,0)

0<x<pi/2 was asking for the values that equal 1… im pretty sure it was I and III

I’m talking about that question with the following options:

I. 2 sin x csc x
II. 2 sin x cos x (?? I don’t remember this one very well anymore, but sin x cos x was definitely involved in it.)
III. sqrt (sin ^2 x + cos ^2 x)

The question asked which ones would be 1 for every real x-value in the domain 0 < x < pi/2…

EDIT: Oh! Right! I picked the option that only had III at first, but then changed my answer to I and III. Right… sorry haha. I was just reminded of that as I typed that out.

for the Q that had sin2xcsc2x… i put I and III cause by trigno they anyway cancel to give one…

NYEM, that looks familiar… i totally forgot which answer i put, but i remeber it was a farely easy Q

ohh fledging im talking about another one,
its like
I. totally wrong
II.x^2 +3x+2
III. x^2+3x+1

I said II and III for the one that you put only III. I feel like II would work as well… no?

Oh, and for the one that some of you put “empty set” I put only zero. Anyone else agree?

"x^2<4

I put (-3, 3) after changing it from (0,2), because it asked for the interval which CONTAINED ALL values of x so that <4. clearly, the quadratic equation makes all negative values positive, in which case [-2,2] would be correct. that choice wasn’t given, so the next best was (-3,3)"

That doesn’t make sense, because 3^2 = 9, which doesn’t fit x^2 < 4. (0,2) fits because it’s upto but NOT including 2 - this would make x^2 < 4.

There was one that was like f(x, y, z) = f(x, 0, z) and g(x) was something…was the answer to that (0, z, 0)?

7/15 probability?

Yeah, rawkfist… that’s right only you have II and III backwards.

and yeah I got 7/15 for one.
