December 9 SSAT/Applying

Is anyone else taking the SSAT on December 9? Most people on here seem to be taking it only in October and November. I registered for the December date yesterday.

I'm only applying to one school. (Greenhills School, Ann Arbor, Mich.) What schools are you guys applying?

My daughter is - need to register her. Question: we're still not totally sure which schools we'll be submitting applications for - what's recommended for reporting? Can we send later after we receive the scores? Use the $25 bundle package? Any recommendations?

Last year we purchased the bundle package for up to 10 schools. You can add schools when you want, and they keep track of them online. In other words, you can send the report to 6 and later decide to add 2 more. You can wait until after the test to send the reports.

Jonathan1--you're not applying to East Coast schools? When did you change your list?

i'm taking it then. :) Hopefully, I'll do really good! Schools said they perfer scores from December or January....

I've decided that I'm not applying to boarding school for the 2007-2008 school year. I don't feel that I am ready to leave home, and I think that the local prep school will be challenging enough for me. It's right near the University of Michigan, so perhaps I could take some classes there.

If I don't like it, then I'll probably apply next year to St. Paul's.

What schools are you applying to?

It's a long list--I know that chances are slim for such competitive schools:
Philips Academy, Andover
Philips Exeter Academy
St. Paul's School
Groton School
Concord Academy
Deerfield Academy
Thacher School
Milton Academy
St. Mark's School
(Plus some local day schools)

that is a lot of schools. have you considered narrowing it down?

Yeah, and all of those schools seem very different from each other.

I don't think I'm going to narrow it down. Boarding school is far and away my best option for high school, and with such low ARs, since some of it is luck (i.e. ther are more girls than usual or less girls than usual from California applying to a particular school in one year), applying to more does improve the chances some what. They are quite different, though, but I think that I would be happy at any of them--certain schools could help me develop certain interests. Honestly, what I really, really wanted to do was attend this excellent boarding school in England that admitted me last year, but my parents decided they didn't want me going that far. Still, I really like these schools, and my options will be very limited if I don't get into any. Are there any boarding schools in the U.S. that are very similar to the English model that people know about?

sps is supposed to be like british schools

How, tommesiter?

I don't know, i just saw that somewhere.

Unless you got into St. Paul's Girl School ( which is the top academic boarding schoolin England) all the schools on your list would be at least as good or better than any school you got into. As to your question which of the American preps are most like a British "Public' school, never "boarding" school dear, I would say off hand Groton, Middlesex, St. Paul's, Deerfield in their original incarnation as boys schools. Over the last generation these schools have gotten a lot more inclusive, american in a good sense. The British preps are still by and large single sex schools and not nearly as open to people with little money than the American peer schools ( which in my opinion are better) The academic top end among the British schools would be Winchester for boys and St. Pauls for girls.

im seeing the december test as well

I'm also taking the December test. My family and I are going to visit schools in Nov.
