December SAT International Test Discussion

I think last writing section 13&14 were both A, yeah.
And I got 54 for the fish problem as well. Wasn’t it just like 24 ounces is directly proportional to 6 inches squared and thus the constant is 2/3?
Alistar passage should have been experimental. One of my friends had math as experimental and didn’t get that section.
What were the other options for the “a change is underway” question?

Oh right, for the last IE on the writing section with the mountain lions are one of blah blah blah. Did you guys get one of or NE?

It was “one of” , should be some or among (plural lions?)

and for change is underway, I put urgent, I’m not sure which is right. another common choice is reflective.

So fookin’ ****ed at that fish question, first mistake in Math D:
Do most prestigious schools super-score?

Yeah I think I put both A. I wasn’t sure between the one that said “but” and the one that said "however’.

I also put equanimity, conviviality, protean (for the one about viruses). What did people say about Alistair’s attitude? Was it scientifically inclined or philosophical? I put scientifically inclined because she was referring to genes , but was confused about the whole “fate” thing…

@Adrenaline: Yay! Thanks!

Got same sentence completion answers as you Sci-Fry. I think it was scientifically inclined.
For the takeover is underway question I think I put reflective. Since she’s thinking back on it?
Btw, is it possible for two of the same sections to be in a row but not have any one of them be experimental?

Oh also, for the last grid-in with the bisected triangle, does anyone remember the position of the angles (which angle was 50, which 60, and which 70?)

There was that Spanglish short passage question as well and what does the author think of it. None of them really fit so I put ingenious…which doesn’t fit…but ominous. unfortunate, ludicrous, and inexplicable really don’t work either.

No, one has to be experimental.
I don’t recall equianimi—, I chose indifference instead, but I did get protean so that’s cool.

Spanglish was ingenious, because he said it was a wonder. What did you guys make of the blog / newspaper one? What would the author of 1 disagree with 2 on?

Also, the angles: left to right was 50 60 70 respectively, and the answer 65.

I also put “reflective”. I thought of putting urgent but then ruled it out. The word “underway” made me think of urgent, but there would only be a sense of urgency if they were seeking some kind of immediate response to the takeover. At least that’s my guess (might be wrong).

For the triangle, I’ve drawn out a diagram to show you how I worked it out.

http://i47.■■■■■■■.com/e6u1xv.png

We can work out that:
x + y = 120
x + z = 125
y + z = 115

If we add the first two equations we get:
2x + y + z = 245, but we know that y + z = 115, so:
2x + 115 = 245
2x = 130
x = 65

EDIT:

I also put ingenious as it was the only one that remotely made sense. Equanimity I’m pretty sure was right because it fit the context - they preserved their equanimity (i.e. their composure/calm).

I think I got the same answers on the triangle question, Adrenaline and Sci-Fry. Thanks for the diagram by the way! So pro!
Adrenaline: what were the options for what they disagreed on?
What’d you guys think of the university passage? Was author 2’s question an acknowledgment of a historic force or a hypothesis?

Agree with Sci-Fry on this one. I remember it was two blanks and the first choice for the indifference option didn’t work.

^ What exactly was the question about historic force etc.? I remember those answers, and I remember being strung between “introducing a new hypothesis” and something else (perhaps historic force), but I went for the other one because the “hypothesis” was introduced earlier on, hence it was not new. Do you remember the other answers?

What did you guys put for the “what in passage one would disprove the closing sentence of passage 2?” I put the fact that “Dr. [Professor’s] University initially condoned concealing the results of the research” or something along those lines.

SciFry: I don’t remember the other choices, sorry. But I had the same idea as you as for why to reject the hypothesis answer so I chose the historic force one.

And I got the same answer as you for the condoning research question.

You’re really making my day, Sci-Fry! :D

hey guys what do u think the curve is? math?cr and wr?

Math and writing will prob be pretty harsh since they were relatively easy. Critical reading was pretty hard though don’t you think? But even if it is considered hard the nicest curve is still 64/67 = 800, and that’s only two wrong assuming you filled all the bubbles in.

Sci-Fry, I also wrote that.

Crap turns out I made quite a few mistake then. How many no errors were there for the first writing section? I got a total of 3: 1 in the first 11, 2 in the rest up to 29.

Hopefully -1 math won’t be less than 780. I’m sick of harsh math curves. The last two times I got -2, and got 740 and 750 consecutively.

CR was pretty hard. Writing was about normal.

Adrenaline: I think I got 3 no errors, but not sure which ones.

I think NE was for the Wales city one and another for the old people who write autobiographies? I didn’t count for the improving sentences part but I know 2 NE for the Identifying Error.

Thank you Sci-Fry. I also got -1, let us pray together.

I shall sleep soundly tonight knowing I’ve given it my all on my last chance in high school. Sci-Fry, do let me know your score when results come around!

@lemonade, your memory is astounding!

@Sci-Fry: -2 can’t be a 740. If you are talking about the May exam, 740 was -3.

Someone posted that he/she didn’t have the passage by the African American person. So, assuming that this is correct, the real passage was the on written by this French guy (Monte___??) I’ll see if anyone confirms it though.

Thanks Adrenaline. It’s my last go as well. I’m happy that it’s over and that I did everything I could do. I’ll be happy with whatever I achieve.

Good luck!

@Mega: I got -2 = 740 for the international June exam. Sucks, huh?
