Someone mentioned earlier that question with the line and A B C D E and X or w/e....what exactly was that question?? anyone remember?

OMG I was so mad at myself for getting that rst question wrong. I mean ffs I got that same question on the Oct SAT and got it wrong. So by any and all logic I should get it right this time. But noooo. Anyways I put 5, what's the answer? I think 5 is A.

Yeah...between B and C.

The question asked you to find a place between two letters, X, where 2AX = AF (it went to F)

I remember that question, A B C D E F are equally spaced apart. XF is twice as far as AX. Where should X be placed on the line.

I didn't get this one, because, between BC wouldn't work but neither would CD.

r u sure... its between B and C.. im pretty sure its between D and E

Well, then what about between B and C?

It would be D and E if they said that AX was twice XF--I don't remember how they worded it.

i think it's DE too

If the problem was as GlueEater recalled it, then it would be B-C. But nobody's answered my question yet--do people get variations of the same problem??

No they said that XF is twice as long as AX.

How is it BC? Lets assume that each space is 1 unit. AX would be 1.5 if placed between BC. BUT XF is 3.5 units. So it would be more than twice as long.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. But then I read X was a place BETWEEN two segments, meaning it can be anywhere along the segment. Considering all segments are 1, then the ratio between AC and CF would be 2:3, and the ratio between AB and BF would be 1:4. Somewhere along B-C lies 1:2.

CAN'T EDIT:

Unless I" remembering it long and they asked where would it be longer, not specifically twice as long. In that case then BC would work, but I don't see how BC would work in the problem I posted.

EDIT:

Ahh, ****. I can't believe it. I put down BC, but changed it to CD. Jeez, story of my SAT career. Best advice to ANYONE taking the SATs in the future, always go with your first instince.

yeah, marimare. it did say between... .which means it could be anywhere. it tricked me up for a second.

I put DE too... maybe there are multiple versions?

do you remember the whole question? i cant recall what i put

i'm pretty sure it said that AX was twice XF cause i once again didn't get it the first time and went and reworked and reread it twice. then the answer was between D and E

GlueEater has it typed a few posts up....

I mean, I definitely think people have different versions. I skimmed the November Math Curve board and some people got 780 for -1, and some people got 770--> only way that could happen is different versions (assuming they all either omitted or got it wrong)

I'm pretty sure it was XF is twice AX. I think we do have different versions.

anyone 99.9% sure which it was?

Though my opinion may not be as authoritative as andreaaaa's :P
I guarantee you that 1/4 is the correct answer.

yes i also got 1:4.

I remember thinking it was DE, but rereading it and getting BC. But somehow I chose CD.

I don't remember getting 25:4, I got 5:20. Which is still 1/4.
