Hi, any of you that have been recently, or students with family that come and stay nearby....where do they stay. Will possibly be coming up to visit from South Palm Beach County and need a decent, but reasonable as possible place to stay - any recommendations nearby?

During Preview and before move-in my mom and I stayed at the Paramount Plaza. They’re reasonably priced and often have really good specials like stay 2 nights, get 1 free, room upgrades, or something of the sort. The lakeview rooms have a beautiful view, but are a little more expensive than the courtyard view rooms. The morning staff is really friendly and they have a shuttle that goes to campus and a few other locations so you don’t have to worry about parking on campus. It’s not the closest hotel to campus, but less than a 5 minute ride away.

I went to UF last year for my brother’s orientation and I stayed at the Days Inn (that place was trash). Save yourself the trouble and cross that off your list, LOL. Anyway, I received many recommendations to go to the Paramount and it seems that almost everybody that I know that has gone to UF goes there (and the price is reasonable), so you should definitely give that one a try. As a matter of fact, I’m going there this weekend :)

i stayed at Paramount. It’s a decent price, and the rooms are clean. Don’t pay for the view. There is a chance you’ll get a “side” view, like I did. Basically all I saw was an empty grass field and the other side of the hotel. The lake was barely visible. Other lakeside rooms are right near the lake, and that must be beautiful, but its all luck of the draw.

Usually, we stay at the Homewood Suites beause we like having a suite. They also provide a breakfast within the price (typical light fare) and they do an evening light fare as well. We’ve always had a clean suite, a comfortable bed, a regrigerator to leave our sodas and stuff in, including leftovers from restaurants. Thus, the microwave comes in handy … oh, and I like to make the free popcorn they leave in the room, too. LOL

We are part of the Hilton points system so we tend to stay within their hotels and gather our points. Both of these hotels fit that bill. :)

lol, I was lucky enough to get the lakeside view (in the background), but a giant tree blocked everything… just my luck.

Loony2nz, if you are still planning your trip and looking for a pretty decent hotel at a cheap price, I definitely recommend going to the Paramount. If you want to dish out the $, go to the Hilton. It has a really nice location and with name recognition alone, it’s probably the best hotel in the area.

We’ve stayed at the Hilton Conference Center, Paramount Plaza and the Best Western Gateway. If you are the Priceline user, you can get very reasonable rates that these 3. They are all considered 2 1/2 stars or 3. I don’t bid on anything less than 2 1/2. We have gotten the Paramount for less than $50 including all the taxes and fees on multiple occasions.
