Nicer hotels near FSU???

We are planning to visit and tour the school in early June and I am looking to make a reservation for our family at a nearby hotel. Can anyone suggest the nicest (clean, more luxurious...as opposed to a... Days Inn type) ones in the area? The website was not very informative. Is there perhaps a local Marriott, Weston or Hilton around?

Our favorites: the Doubletree on Park and the ComfortSuites on Apalachee Parkway. The hotels by the Interstate are not as nice.

Comfort Suites: <a href="http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfo?hotel=FL161&sid=tTxIM.4OKU0gpK9.5&sarea=5920&sname=Tallahassee&sstate=FL&scountry=US&sradius=40.22&slat=30.437999725341797&slon=-84.28070068359375&schain=A&exp=&scity=Tallahassee&sort=&city_code=TLH%5B/url%5D">http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfo?hotel=FL161&sid=tTxIM.4OKU0gpK9.5&sarea=5920&sname=Tallahassee&sstate=FL&scountry=US&sradius=40.22&slat=30.437999725341797&slon=-84.28070068359375&schain=A&exp=&scity=Tallahassee&sort=&city_code=TLH</a></p>

Doubletree: <a href="http://www.doubletree.com/en/dt/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=THLAPDT%5B/url%5D">http://www.doubletree.com/en/dt/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=THLAPDT</a></p>

I suggest you make your reservations now... ;)

seician, that I think will be as great time to visit the school, we made the mistake of visiting FSU, USF, UF, UCF for a week in July. It was among the hottest and the most humid conditions we have ever experienced even for Florida in the summer.

FSU is the only one that has a van tour and we chose to do that. But you have to book early. It will take you around more of the campus and the guide was very informative. The night before the tour we took D to the campus and frove around, stopped for a couple of hours. This included also photo's in the Stadium (it was open) and pictures of Bobby and the Seminole statue. The walking tours we took at the other schools were just brutal. It was 98/90% at Gainsville by 11:00 the day we were there.

Before the van tour we had a fair amount of time to shop at the clothing store for clothing.

On the van tour they made quite a bit about the Circus course. I've never heard it mentioned on this website but apparently it is quite popular with the students.

I know it's not the profile you specified but we did stay at a comfort inn right across the street.

Thank you, I will book this today. Does the van tour stop to allow you to look longer and ask questions? After the tour, can you visit the dorms (my daughter is very interested in seeing the dorms for some reason) and go into the student union and library? Is the Comfort Inn the same as the Comfort Suites? I like the idea of the suites (for a bit of personal space between my 16 yr old and my husband and myself!) We are very excited for this little roadtrip. I have never been further north in Florida than Gainesville (eldest child)before.

Here is the link for visitors:
<a href="http://visit.fsu.edu/%5B/url%5D">http://visit.fsu.edu/</a>
It does say the van tour is 45 minutes and covers the same information as the walking tour in half the time.
It says you can see dorms during the regular academic sessions most afternoons.
They also have an admissions information session.
It is best to schedule a visit through the web site or call between 8am and 5pm 850/644-3246.

The FSU campus is an easy campus to walk around on. It's fairly compact and most of the the cool picturesque buildings are all close together, except for the stadium which is on the southwestern edge of campus. You can easily walk around most of the campus without getting tired. I would recommend doing the van tour first, and then walking around to get a real feel for the campus. You really can't go on foot and expect to see much of UF's or UCF's campus, they are way to big and spread out.

Also, the Doubletree on Park Ave. is very nice with a great downtown location. Its close to everything, and you can walk to the all downtown retaurants.

There is a Hilton Garden Inn on Apalachee Parkway, facing Governor's Square Mall.

^^ The comments in the above threads are correct, the van tour will finish quicker than the walking tour, but you will see at a minimum the same amount of info and it will be MUCH more comfortable. The tour's all leave from the Stadium complex building, adjacent to to that is the visitor parking which is close by right across the street. We just turned in off I think Tennesse St and we were there. In this same building are the admissions office and the room that they give the presentation before the tours. They have the Q & A session after the presentation and then you are off either by van or walking. We passed walking tours along the van tour route they were huddled under trees it was just that hot that day, you would not be wanting to walk. We did not go in the housing at FSU but did at UCF and USF, I think from what we saw on the web it's the same general setup.

No it was just a regular comfort inn.

Plenty of places to eat with variety, we ended up at a seafood place, but I think but all the major places are there.

Thanks so much to everyone here for their suggestions. I just booked our visit. We will stay at the Doubletree Hotel that parent2noles suggested (I earn Hilton points there!) and we are registered to attend an afternoon admissions session (we are driving up from Orlando that morning) followed by a Van tour. I suppose if we arrive early we will check out the student union before the session. Any supper/restaurant recommendations?

Seician, lately we have been liking the Bonefish Grill. I checked there is one in Tallahasse:

3491 Thomasville Rd
Tallahassee, FL 32309
(850) 297-0460

Thanks, we like that place too. I printed that info and put it in our trip file.

We are travelling down next week to observe classes (MT) and do the official tours I’m trying to keep the trip cheap but comfortable any suggestions??

I stayed at a Residence Inn nearby the campus. It was spacious and had a kitchen as well. Everything was clean and it the bed was comfortable.

I have stayed at the Quality Inn on Apalachee Parkway a number of times. The rooms have been updated and have flat screens and they offer a free breakfast and it only takes a few minutes to get to campus. I would recommend that for less expensive.

I’ve stayed the the Aloft which is very nice and modern and sometimes you can get a good rate if there’s nothing going on in Tallahassee. it’s downtown.

you can also try priceline. I got the Doubletree through that once at an incredible price but you don’t get the bed type guaranteed.

Comfort Inn by the I10 exit off Monroe.
Cheap, Clean.
It’s Tallahassee, why would you want to spend excess money on a “luxurious” hotel…
Save the money you won’t be spending to just SLEEP at a hotel at some restaurants or at Governor’s Square.

The Residence Inn (I believe it’s part of Mariott) next to the Civic Center is very nice and less than a mile from campus.

Since you asked for the nicest hotel in the area, it’s Hotel Duval. Probably overkill for what you need the hotel for though.

And if you decide none of these work for you, try the Prince Murat Motel on Monroe St. Rooms come with free HBO, and I believe they even change the paper on the beds for each guest. (Kidding of course… don’t look at this place).
