deciding between UMN and IU

I have gotten accepted to both these colleges, and I applied as a liberal art major. Working with my father and a resort chain in my gap year, i have started enjoying business. And i might want to study a few business majors, or pretty much only business as my main major. I have written to both colleges regarding scholarships and a big part of my decision is going to be dependent on that as well. Should i notify the college already of my decision or how should I go about it.

Also can you please help me with what college will be better if my preference is:

  1. Business major, Psychology as a minor. I'd love to study philosophy as well
  2. I am a musician too and IU appeals to me coz of lot of non-music major options in Jacobs school of music (but i dont want that to only be a very important aspect).
  3. Good student life.
  4. Good career options after graduation, im not very sure if i want to do my post-grad immediately.
  5. I know overall UMN has higher ranking in National Unis but does it really matter?

Thanks for posting this! I have the same questions. I’m interested in studying business at both schools, does one have a stronger program? And what is the difference in overall environment or campus vibe at the universities?

Rankings are pretty meaningless when comparing two Big 10 universities. I don’t think anyone has a firm opinion regarding which is more prestigious: Indiana U or U of Minnesota.

You were admitted as a liberal arts major, so is the plan to do really well at IU and then gain admission to Kelley (one of the top business schools)? If Kelley is not a possibility (or you are uncertain that it will become a possibility), then go to UMN to study business if you know for sure that business will be your major. Yes, Kelley is prestigious, but you can still do well at Carlson (UMN’s business program).
