M11191, Thanks for the info. Stressful being a parent and sending your first child off to college. Good luck to you and I hope you get a positive response from UMASS soon.

D accepted today to Isenberg School of Management!
In state
3.7 g.p.a.
1230/1600 SATs
Glad to be accepted to Isenberg!

My son received a snail mail letter of acceptance two days ago, and his online application status just changed from “under review” to accepted today. He is OOS but will get the New England regional tuition because his major is not available in our state.

Incidentally, he is accepted into the STPEC major, Social Thought and Political Economy. which dovetails nicely with his multidisciplinary interests in government, economics, and history. Our concern is whether he will get the hardcore quantitative economics that will be important in getting into graduate school in economics, if that’s the route he wants to go. A double major, or a minor in another department is a possible way to deal with that. Any thoughts on this program appreciated.

I used to live in the area. One year in Amherst, and another several in Northampton. Couldn’t ask for a better place to live, which may make the difference between UMASS and another public, Stony Brook, which has no college town at all.

M11191my son was accepted to both UMASS and UCONN for engineering. Do you have any idea which school is better for this and why?

I know that the engineering department at UMass is usually ranked higher, but I doubt that the program at UConn is lacking in any way. It probably depends on precisely what type of engineering degree is sought, so if it was me I would research each school closely. For example, a lot of kids from my high school chose UConn for civil engineering but I’ve always heard that UMass has a top-notch polymer science program. I am fairly sure UMass recently built a new engineering building, but I could be wrong. I’m a political science major, so I’m woefully unqualified to make any valid judgments, but the above is what I have heard through the grapevine.

I got into the engineering program with mediocre…everything basically.
Coming from a private school…
3.5 GPA, 1710 super score SAT, 630 Chemistry, 550 US History & Math II, 24 ACT.
Good EC’s and great essay

i just got accepted a few weeks ago (OOS)… anyone else get in as a communication major?

I’m assuming everyone here who has received an acceptance letter is a freshman applicant? I’m just wondering if they’ve mailed out the first round of transfer acceptances…

waiting sure is a HUGE pain in the butt… M1191, ive seen you leaving quiet a few comments recently, i guess you must have been pretty anxious about your decision, and so am i, except im a freshman applicant. but your stats seem pretty good, i think you have a solid chance, unlike me, kinda below average and thats probably why ive been so nervous about my decision lol

me too bigtuna. I am VERY nervous. Umass is the only college i want to go to. The suspense has been killing me. i guess i would consider myself a little below average for the applicant pool too. What i hate is that if i graduated in 2007, i would be def admitted.

Yeah I still haven’t been accepted, I have no idea when I’ll know. UMass has become increasingly competitive over the years, but there’s a chance if you aren’t accepted for fall 2010 you will be waitlisted, which also means you have guaranteed admission for the spring semester, if you choose. Colleges in general are getting out of control, in terms of competitiveness and cost, it really sucks.

The other thing is, UMass was on spring break this past week, so they probably weren’t processing applications. I could be wrong on that though, just a guess.

^I know a bunch came out and then it seemed to stop, at least for local applicants.

to M11191, i think they were still mailing out letters last week cause people on fb group still receiving letters throughout last week

I have still not recieved my letter but I am hoping to get it this week.

Ok well then perhaps they mailed some out, I’m a transfer, but I’m not sure if they have sent out any transfer acceptances yet, I’m fairly sure they process the freshman applicants first.

still haven’t heard anything, i looked at a thread from last year about kids still waiting for a decision and some people didn’t get theirs’ till april 15th…so i may have a long time to wait :(

This really sucks…

I just got my decision today and I’m in-state. My brother (also in-state, obviously) applied there too and still hasn’t gotten his back yet… frustrating for him! I guess it’s somewhat random if two people in the same house didn’t even get their decisions at the same time.

that is actually very ridiculous, i feel bad for your brother lol but congrats to you!
