Decision: I will turn WUSTL down for_____.

Hey guys! This is a response to the other decision thread for WUSTL. Is there anyone abandoning WUSTL for sth greater????

I will turn down a spot on the waitlist for Princeton.

University of Maryland

I wanted to go to WUSL but my parents dont want me to go there cuz too far from home.. and that it's "in the middle of nowhere". Colleges im considering now are UC Berkeley, UCDavis and Claremont McKenna

Did you get admitted to WUSTL, FNT? Did you get to visit? I am just wondering how your parents think WU is in the "middle of nowhere". St. Louis may not be LA but it is definitely not in the middle of nowhere.

I am turning down WUSTL for Columbia

S is turning down waitlist spot for Pomona (his first choice).

Turned down WashU for Duke (but I can't seem to locate my WashU reply card >.<)

sunny - I'm not sure there is a reply card. My son sent an e-mail today to let them know he's declining the offer of admission to attend Rice.

Well....the more who quit, the more room they make for the waitlisters, including my D....lol. Seriously, she is going to a northeastern private school and is smitten with it. But...and its a big BUT.....if WashU makes the call, we are prepared to drop everything and go there. We visited WashU and were very impressed with the campus and the warmth of the people. St. Louis is a beautiful city. It does NOT deserve the bum rap it gets.

Now we know about the WashU wait list. And yes the odds are against us, but frankly if the angels part the clouds, we are going. Wish us luck.

Best of luck to you all.

Good luck to your daughter, friedokra. :-)

Thanks. WashU is a magical place it seems. But she is admitted and has made a deposit to a northeastern private school that she also really liked and felt very comfortable at. And their faculty are very much the peers of WashU faculty, so in that sense its a toss up. But WashU has such a good reputation and we are very impressed with how smooth they run that school.

I wish everyone the best.

University of Michigan Ann Arbor

good luck to those on the waitlist!

don't we already have this same thread?

turning down wash u for UTD

UT Dallas?

Turning down WashU for Duke. I liked WashU, but Duke gave me more money and I liked it even more.

i turned down duke....they gave me about 7000 less than what washu gave me

Hello FilAm_mom.
Yup, I got admitted to WUSL. But I had to turn it down because of my parents' wanting me to stay in California. We havent visited WUSL- i wish i was able to though cuz it sounds like such a lovely university.

Oh i'm sorry if i somehow offended you by the "middle of nowhere" thing. It's because we are actually from the Philippines and haven't really been to the USA apart from California.. so yes, anything outside Cali is unfamiliar and scary to my parents, hence the "middle of nowhere" statement.

^ No offense taken, FNT. Like I said, St. Louis is a small city compared to the cities in CA, but again, like I said," it is not in the middle of nowhere. " My older son is now a junior at WUStL and he is thriving. He loves everything about the school.
So your parents were originally from the Phil.? Now I understand. They might be unwilling to send you halfway across the country because they will miss you, a typical reaction from most Fil-Am parents.
Good luck wherever you decide to go to college.
