Decision Thread- CO 2027 American University

It definitely sucks now, but everyone will always end up where they’re meant to be. Don’t lose any hope

Waitlisted.

Full IB DP diploma. 4.0 unweighted, 4.96 weighted. 33 ACT. President of school’s largest club (over 200 students). Won multiple awards. Excellent recommendations. Went to visit in DC, but daughter had a medical event and ended up in the hospital so not able to visit campus.

accepted w/ Dean’s scholarship of 10k /yr. 32 ACT, 3.8 UW, 4.8 W and visited the school w/ tour

DD is in!

Admitted $20k pres scholarship

In other award letters at other schools they have said the merit we got is for all 4 years. In the American or doesn’t say that, it only has next year listed. Is everyone else’s like that? Probably need to call and see about that.

Merit at AU is all four years. So if you get a $10k deans scholarship, it’s $10k per year, $5k per semester.

waitlisted, but accepted UMICH, Northeastern. Fair enough

If you get a Dean’s Scholarship and AU Honors, does AU Honors come with additional funds?

The honors program does not include a scholarship.

That’s crazy.

DS accepted but where does it say merit scholarship awarded?

Admitted with lots of demonstrated interest (tour, outreach to a professor), very good but not stellar grades, and 32 ACT. $10K deans scholarship. My kid is seriously considering an Americorps gap year. Will the scholarship be lost?

accepted for polisci, 4.15 wGPA, test optional, pretty good ECs (worked for my districts state rep, worked for state senate candidate, and worked for secretary of state candidate, interned for 2 local activist organizations, worked 3 elections, president of 3 clubs, 4 honors societies, 100+ volunteer hours), no merit aid

Merit scholarships will be listed in the acceptance letter.

Depends on the circumstances. Admissions counselors can answer.

Daughter waitlisted, poly sci major. 3.98 UW GPA, 1440 SAT, competitive dancer (20+hours/week), MUN, part time job, 2 yrs as drum major for band, strong essays & LORs.

We weren’t able to do a campus visit and most of the live webinars conflicted with her school or dance schedule, so thinking not enough demonstrated interest for AUs liking. Didn’t realize AU views that as important as GPA.

She’s now deciding if it’s worth it to write another why AU essay, or move on. It was one of her top choices, so she’s pretty disappointed.

Accepted into Honors with 15k deans scholarship per year!!

3.99 UW/4.23 W
33 ACT
President of two school clubs
Internship with refugees summer 2022
Study abroad last year

also (so far) accepted to pitt honors, fordham honors (with a 26k merit scholarship), ohio state honors, and unc chapel hill! Waiting on about ten more schools

ACCEPTED with $10k/year Dean’s Scholarship. Poli sci major. 3.55UW/4.0W, 30 ACT superscored, from competitive magnet HS. 9 AP/3 IB, with a solid mid year report, though not a candidate for the full IB diploma. One big EC related to major but otherwise kinda weak in that regard. Demonstrated a fair deal of interest.

will most likely be attending

Highly recommend that your daughter tries if she’s really interested in AU. There’s many ways she can show interest through the waitlist. Writing the essay, sending a letter of continued interest to her counselor, asking to talk to a student tour guide, etc.
