So as a transfer student who applied to different schools I have had very disappointing results (in terms of top choice). Anyways, now I have make a decision and would like some assistance.

Two schools deferred me to apply for Fall '09, I guess I'm borderline for another school because they want to see my transcript before they decide, and one school accepted me.

I was accepted to the business school at BC (which according to their website its the most selective and they only accept 5-10 students unlike their usual rate). So I feel very flattered and am seriously considering enrolling. The problem is my parents care a lot about prestige and rank, and while Carroll is #14 in business according to businessweek and #34 undergraduate according to usnews, they find themselves hesitant to pay $47,000/year for anything that isn't within the top 20 for overall undergrad with a well-known name. Of course, their hesitance influences me as well.

The school that's waiting for me to send my transcript is within the top 20 with a relatively good name. At the time of my application, my full year freshman year gpa was a 3.8. However, due to me overbooking this semester and taking all hard math/sciences courses (always my weakpoint) in addition to too many hours. I will get anywhere between 2.4 and a 3.05 this semester which will pull my GPA down a lot. Which also probably blows any chance of me sending a transcript in to be their decision to accept me.

Which also means I probably won't get into my two roll-overs too right?

Thus, do you think I should transfer to BC (restart GPA - chances at good internships) or wait it out and hope that by some miracle my three maybe schools will still accept me? What are my chances of still getting accepted?

I need to make up my mind first before I try to convince my parents. Can anyone help me weight out the pros and cons.

Stats Previously:
College GPA: 3.8 (state university with honors)
High School GPA: 4.2W/3.4UW
SAT: 2170 (combo)

bc is a really good school and i would definitely go there.
the pros- is it's basically in boston so you can get good internships/ job opportunities after you graduate and it's ranked well

the cons- your parents will need convincing regarding the money

i say go to bc! it's a good school with a good reputation. the fact that your gpa has gone down will not look good to the other colleges.

if you don't accept bc's offer though, i would send a letter to the other colleges explaining why your gpa went down.

I am sorry to hear your transfer results did not come out as well as you would have liked, however, Boston College is a really great and highly respected school. Personally, I suggest you go with that. I am not familiar with their job placement but I imagine it must be respectable. Call me crazy but once you get to a certain level of prestige I don't believe there to be a huge difference in what you will get out of the institution in terms of recruiting etc, unless of course, we are talking HYP, Stanford, etc... Also, I don't mean to "burst your bubble", although you do seem realistic, but I really don't think with that type of fall 08 GPA you will have a very good chance at any of your other schools. Chances are they were looking to see continuous improvement/ maintained level of excellence.

Here are some things to think about with BC:
You are in Boston! You will have plenty of opportunity to network and make connections at different firms that will lead to job opportunities/ internships for you

Very highly respected school both nationally and in Boston!

Also, I'm going on the assumption you are unhappy at your current institution. If this is true why would you want to stick it out there for the faint possibility of getting into one of these three schools when you have been given a great opportunity? I say this because based on the probability that you are not accepted for the fall at these other schools there is a chance you will be disappointed you did not take BC.

Just some things to consider and best of luck.

this is really weird...i could've sworn i had replied again. anyways, a lot of the schools i applied to had half their usual acceptance rate for fall though...so would that factor into anyone's advice at all? i probably will still end up with a cumulative gpa of 3.3-3.5.

i am seriously considering accepting bc though :).

FWIW, I think you should accept BC. They're a really good school. Of course, I don't know much about them or their business program, but it sounds like the best option you have, definitely. What others have said makes sense, especially rcl's post. As long as you'll be happier there than at your current school, you should go because your chances at the other schools aren't looking so hot and I don't think they'll like your explanation for your GPA drop. Although, if you'd be happy finishing out your four years at your current school if you don't get accepted to the others and you'd really rather not go to BC, I say wait it out.

i say still go to bc! i know it will be a lot of money, but maybe go to bc but still apply to the other schools so if you get into them and hate bc you could transfer for fall '09. i don't know!

i really would just go to bc though!

good luck, i know it's a tough decision but you're the one who will have to live with it so just do what you want and you won't regret it!
