That is so awesome

i noe.. personally i think it sounds like a great deal but dont know the details..

i wonder if neone has more info on it. im intrigued

"i didn't know it was for weaker apps.. people just apply to it and stuff."

Well, it is for weaker applicants in that the Freshmen in Florence program is for GSP students, not people in regular NYU schools like CAS, Stern, Tisch, etc.

what is GSP.. and do people like apply to that?
i'm not really getting the whole idea of this florence thing..

GSP is the general studies program. People in it originally applied to another NYU school, but were not offerred admission. However, for some reason NYU wanted to let them in (ie they were recruited athletes, sons of rich alumni, minority, had real academic potential, etc.)...thus they were deferred to GSP. After 2 years, GSP students can transfer to the NYU school they originally applied to provided they maintain a 3.0. GSP students have lower stats than people in regular NYU schools, and most, but not all, had originally applied to CAS.

The GSP program is currently being discussed in a thread on this board:

ok.. but i really think that is not entirely true. this girl in my school got into CAS to do some kinda medical program .. i'm not sure whether it was CAS or one of the other schools but she had a 1270.. and i know others who got into NYU with relatively average or low stats... and i know several people who are in florence now and also got into florence this year with good stats.. and they are strong students.
apparantly students are also selected to do this program as welll.

so does noone apply for GSP?
and do u stay in florence for 2 years or one?

Yes, it is true. I'd venture you can find people in Harvard that have worse stats than some in community college...it doesn't mean a thing. While there are some individuals in regular NYU schools like CAS who might have lower stats than those in GSP, on the average this is not true at all. GSP people on the aggregate have lower stats than the other NYU schools, and thats a fact. Also, keep in mind that NYU gets more and more competitive each year, people in GSP right now, may have been in CAS, Stern or Tisch if they had applied a few years ago.

You cannot apply to GSP, NYU refers you to the program.

oh right i see.. how interesting...
what exactly is the GSP and why do they refer u to it?

o and jwblue.. are u korean?

GSP is just how I described a it a couple posts ago in post #65 on this thread.

No, I'm not Korean, why do you ask?

Freshman year in Florence is only for international students who are referred to gsp. Jwblue explained what gsp is and it's been discussed in so many threads on this forum, just search a little. You don't apply to gsp, you're referred if you don't quite make it into the school you originally applied to, which is usually CAS. For internationals who are referred to gsp, they go to Florence for freshman year then to NYC after that. If you're an international and have been referred to gsp, then you have to go to Florence for freshman year. If you're an international and haven't heard about gsp yet, then you haven't been referred. GSP kids started to hear weeks and weeks ago.

Anyone know when they mail decisions? Sorry. I'm anxious!

oh i just thought u were.. but nvm lol.

so u used to go to nyu?

According to NYU you should receive your decision by April 1. It's anyone's guess as to when they are actually mailed.

okay... so we should receive by April 1. In that case, next week is going to be chaotic!

Yes it will be, especially when people start reporting that they have gotten their letters and some haven't gotten them. They won't all arrive the same day. If you are really sressed about it maybe you shouldn't visit this site for a few days until you get yours. The good thing is that the wait is almost over. Good luck.

I just got off the phone with admissions and the counselor I spoke to said we will receive our letters on Friday (April 1).

Ah...that's so close. I can't deal!

anyone get an invite to "meet the dean"? i called and they said it means to expect good news.

no they just want u to meet the dean so he/she can reject you face to face .. gets across better that way...

"no they just want u to meet the dean so he/she can reject you face to face .. gets across better that way..."

lmao!
