By the way heefar; I hope you don't take my remarks in a personal sense. I congratulate you on your acceptance. Being from out of state you may not be aware of the huge budget crunch here and the fact the UW is taking fewer freshman each year and raising the bar as well. So I was just commenting on a public policy issue.

In no way did i take your comments personal, in fact, i completely understand. In CA, the CSU's and UC's are getting extremely competitive and cuts are being made left and right. It is the same thing that is happening in washington.

Running start is a dual credit system in WA where you can do community college for junior and senior year while getting both college credits and fulfilling HS graduation requirements, thus dual credit.

I believe it may take longer for RS applicants. I think they may want to see what our grades are for winter quarter just because they can because comm college already ended their winter quarter so, I heard you should keep sending in transcripts until you get accepted.

I can agree with mmboys about how much harder it is to be admitted into state and elite colleges each year. It's already happening with the class of 2008.

Heck I bet 10-20 years from now, students will have to have to learn calculus as toddlers just to raise some eyebrows in the admissions department. :D

Dopke so we have to send in our transcripts for fall quarter (just got new grades)? damn that ll cost me another $10...and since that changes our HS transcript should we send another one of that too? And i rememebr they said to write in classes u r taking in college that will NOT be seen on the trasncripts in taht one section of the application...wouldnt that confuse them?

Yeah, fall not winter. I would send them in unless they are ridiculously bad and not consistent with your HS grades or previous GPA or something. Sending them a new HS transcript with your quarter grades (if you have) might be good to show that you are still working hard senior year. I would send updated transcripts with new grades everytime you get them unless they are not good grades :)

About the college classes and transcripts and that one section. I really have no idea. They confused me also. According to their website I shouldn't have had to send in any transcripts because it only says you need to if you had college credits before starting your senior year of study, and I just started RS this fall. So... eh... call them if you want to make sure?

"If you recorded on your application all the courses that will not appear on the transcripts you had sent then you do not send the new transcripts. If anything is missing from your application then you will be notified by mail."

Dopke i guess u dont need to send it

Edit: I think if you did send it it would just confuse them. My fall grades are pretty good (3.7,3.8,4.0) but it would take take a little longer til my counselor puts the grades in HS transcript so I won't even bother... .

I have no idea... I called them up and they said I needed to send in my HS transcript. They didn't say my college ones, but my friend called again later to see if we should continue to send in transcripts until we get accepted and they said yes. So... I think I might just go to their office if I can to make sure everything is straightened out.

is UW rolling admissions for in-state students only?

Yea I want to send them too but I'm afraid that they ll see my GPA on my application is different from the updated one then they ll be like "he lieeed to us! auto rejection!" (althought the application gpa probably is lower)

Thats what I'm afraid of too. My grades have been slipping somewhat since the end of junior year. Does anyone know how low your grades would have to fall before UW reconsiders your admission?

I'd say very low.

seven- they count your GPA from 9-11, so evne if your 12th grade grades changed your cumulative GPA, it will still be the same from 9-11th. but again, if you are regular HS applicant then you dont need to.

It was the night before Christmas; actually 2 nights and my ds myuw site still says "application waiting for preliminary review". Mailed to U on 12/1, received on 12/2; recorded in admissions office 12/9; same day message appears on screen. So, I suppose 15 days (counting from the 9th) still too early? AI is 64 (3.55/1240; 700v, 540m. Since she is short the AI 70 for an automatic admit does that mean her app. will just sit there until Jan. 15 and then considered in the context of all the apps that came in up to the deadline?

I really think that's how they do it. I don't know anyone who has gotten rejected yet but that'll change after the 15th. I can assure you that if they are going to reject you (even though i doubt it) it'll take til March.

The trend we're seeing in my area are students above 70 AI have all heard back within 2-3 weeks of admissions recording it. The others at my school who had lower AIs had their applications flagged for comprehensive review about 2-3 weeks after they sent theirs.

So your D's status might change soon within a few days. The students at UW are on x-mas break right now, but I'm not sure if that applies to the admissions staff. If that's the case, then it might take longer than usual for a response.

Okay, I still have not recieved a confirmation letter with my application ID or anything. I can't check my status without the app number. App was sent in Dec 1st.

Should I call them and how exactly do I get charged when I call them? Is it long distance?

It's probably long distance if you aren't in the 206 area code area. Just use a cell phone.

How close is UW to any ski resorts? Are there many ski resorts in Washington?

how come I haven't gotten my acceptance letter? I sent mine mid-november.

It could be because you're out of state. The things I posted about earlier mostly applied to in-state applicants.
