or i guess in my case, a concentration (i am in CSOM). how much weight does the declared concentration hold or i guess how final is it for freshman. i realize you re-declare sophomore year, but say i initially declared marketing, but want to do finance. is there a chance i would not be allowed to declare a finance major since i originally declared marketing?

no, you just have to go up to the secretary and tell her that you want to change concentrations. the only impact changing concentrations have on you is that you might have taken a class required by your concentration (marketing), that isn't required in the other (finance). however, it's probably unlikely because there's a CSOM core you have to fulfill as well.

Changing concentrations within CSOM is extremely, extremely easy. Literally, as miragemage said, you walk up to a secretary in the department and tell them that you want to add/drop a specific concentration. In CSOM, you will spend all of your freshman year and nearly all of your sophomore year taking "CSOM Core" courses that are required for all CSOM students (Computers in Management, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Economics, Basic Finance, etc.) and you typically don't even being taking courses towards your concentration until Junior year.

So case in point: don't worry about it, you'll be fine.
